This 'sugar tax' crap is doing my head in!

The government has all the rights. The comoanc operaatws under permission from the state, and has to follow all laws and regulations set out by the state.

Otherwise, what is stopping a company simply putting a poison in food and killing millions of people? If companies could do what they want it would be disaster.

It's more likely that they would add addictive substances than deadly poison. The former is much more profitable than the latter. Poisons would probably be added only when they cut production costs and probably wouldn't kill many people quickly and in a provable way.

I'm sure some people will think I'm talking nonsense and companies wouldn't do that. Those people should study history a bit more, because there were companies doing exactly that before regulations were enforced and it gave them a major competitive advantage over companies that didn't.

Watching people in their 50's and 60's die needlessly from complications of T2DM strongly makes me favour this tax.

Really though? Its a way to line the governments back pockets. They couldn't careless about 50's and 60's dying from type 2 diabetes. Actually I don't either.

My best friend drinks coke like its going out of fashion, I warned him if he carry on he will develop 2 diabetes, 5 years on he hasn't changed. In his mid 30's and his waist size is 40. So I have done my part, let him carry on, the others in the UK who are just as ignorant and let their fat backsides get taxed to hell.

Also it looks like some manufacturers opted to just reduce the bottle size to 1.4L and maintain the same prices.

Just makes it look like more of an insult and shrinkonomics.

People are lazy and/or just don't care. Loads of people smoke and drink heavily so why should we be surprised that a load are overweight? I hear often that if 'healthy' food was cheaper a lot less people would be fat, I don't believe that as it would still require people taking 20 minutes of their time to cook it and a lot of people can't be bothered.

Decent helath care would go a long way. Pretty much everyone ignores the fact that a lot of overeating is due to addiction as well as depression and other mental issues. These are rarely addressed by NHS. It's the usual with this country though, save money in short-term to pay many times more in the long run.

I could understand this if the person is clinically obese but can't really see it being the problem if somebody is one or two stone overweight (I'm not a psychologist though so probably wrong).

Personally i think the sugar tax is a bit of a non-starter as i don't know anyone who drinks full fat soft-drinks. Tastes vile to me as well so it will hardly make a difference

I'd go fufurther myself.
Needs more tax to make healthier stuff. More appealing on price

Why punish people who know that a sweet treat shouldn't be a regular thing? If someone is overweight without a medical reason why then they should have to pay more for healthcare.

Sweet food costing more is just a daft way of doing it.

We're only going to be punished for it with more tax for NHS.
May as well put it on something you can whether you want it or not

I suspect you are right and retailers just stock full sugar drinks for the lolz as clearly no one buys them.

Yes that is what should happen if you want people to have a motivation to not be fat.

But, the motive here is to SUSTAIN fat people and establish fatties as a perfectly normal and healthy part of society, in order to tax all society even non fatties. If there weren't any fat people there wouldn't be a tax anymore would there?

The way things are now fatties are probably laughing their arses off that everyone else has to pay for their sustenance.

Except thats not happened companies have mad removes tonchange thier recipe so thier products aren't taxed.

Which will reduce calories fat people consume easily and thus reduce the amount of fat people.

Taxes like this are not about revenue whence why the designate it for some ******** not the general tax fund

I think lucozade has dropped 100 calories From it’s normal range of drinks. I know the orange fizzy version doesn’t taste anywhere near as good anymore. Same goes with Ribena, all drinks in plastic bottles have got half sugar (even though they don’t state this on the bottle!! Check the strawberry bottled version. It only has 40 cal now !)

The cartons have remained unaffected by sugar reduction.

Licozade have lowered the sugar I believe, as a bunch of people moaned that it's no longer a good hangover cure :p
