This is one of those "not this again" threads and i get that BUT i have been hearing about the new 20XX cards and just recently i got Monster Hunter World and its not playing well on my 780 due to the 3gb of VRAM, im having to drop the resolution down to 1080p. So my worry is if i got say a 1060 6gb to fix the vram issue will i be dissapointed in the next few months when the 20XX cards come out, is there any general idea on potential release dates?

If you're looking at the xx60 range of cards you'll probably need to wait till november timeframe, maybe even longer. It depends on you whether you want to stay that long on a 780. 1180 will come first in september as it seems and 1170 in october .

I'm in the same boat at the moment, got a 780 and money set aside for an upgrade. It's starting to burn a metaphorical hole on my trouser pocket but I think it will be worth waiting for the XX70 in October tbh.

Even for newer cards it require heavy driver optimisation to get the cards work well for this game.

The GTX 780 I'm afraid it has long been abandoned by Nvidia in terms of driver support, so that together with 3GB of vram for higher than 1080p is not a good combination.

If you intent to game on 1440 res at max setting (minus the AA) and constant 60~80fps for MHW, you'd need a card of Vega 64 level or a GTX 1080Ti (yes believe or not Vega is actually beat GTX 1080 by quite a bit in this game, due to its the huge memory bandwidth that HBM2 and HBCC offers specially with Volumetric Lighting used by the game).

IMO don't even consider "side-grading" from the GTX 780 to a GTX 1060 6GB. If you are intending to game at 1440p, you should definitely save up/spend more and get a more powerful card. The 192-bit memory bus of the GTX 1060 6GB will hurt the memory bandwidth as well.
