Ford to refund 'engine fail' EcoBoost customers

The reliability issues have been known about with the 1.0 for some time though.
Issues? Other than the coolant pipe replacement what other issues are there?

EDIT:
There has also been a recent recall for the Focus with 6 Speed Manual gearbox relating to clutch slip/overheating

Anyone know if the coolant loss problems with the 2.3 RS engine is the same problem ?

(Maybe it was a completely different problem as the recalled fitted new head gaskets on the RS engines)
A batch of early Focus 2.3 were fitted with the head gasket designed for the Mustang 2.3 - there are some differences in the coolant passages which caused overheating.

Well mine has been spot on so far, no troubles. Touch wood. 4 years in and 30k miles so far.

From what I read the only indication that something was wrong was the temperature gauge, there was no audible warning or on-screen message.

Coolant level sensors are relatively new to cars. How do you think drivers checked if their car was overheating before them?

The sodding temp gauge and actually getting off their backsides and checking fluid levels. I refer to my previous post.

Too many drivers rely on this and that sensor rather than being a responsible owner and physically checking. Sensor systems arent infallible.

But even when these systems work the failure is on the driver as mentioned in Janesy B's post earlier in the thread (#07)

I say do away with these extra sensors and just log the bonnet switch. Car comes in because it broke under warranty and it's found owner hasn't maintained the vehicle regularly - > warranty void.

Do you have any other info on the gearbox and clutch recall? I have a six speed manual focus.

18S07 - CROSS CAR LINE CLUTCH BURST.

Basically a check for clutch slip and an ECU update to detect prolonged clutch slip which otherwise could cause the clutch to overheat and potentially explode, penetrating the housing and damaging fluid lines that then could potentially cause a fire.

You can check for any outstanding Ford recalls/field service actions (including any of the above) via:

Oh ffs it was in for the Ecoboost recall only a couple of weeks ago! Need to call the dealer again I suppose!

I'm taking my fiesta in on Thursday to have the turbo coolant lines checked. There's corrosion on one of them that looks more than surface corrosion. Think there are a few ongoing issues with them. degas hose, coolant sensor as above, and the corrosion to the turbo coolant pipe.

Oh wow well done for finding a few 5yr old examples on AT :p that’s not the same as seeing thousands of 10-18 year old examples still running around without any problems. If you read my post properly i didn’t say ecoboost engines won’t reach that mileage I said i just can’t see there being a big number of them around in 10yrs time or hitting big mileage and still going strong like the 1.6 did in the mk1/2. You seem to take offence whenever I diss the ecoboost engines even in the past but I have owned 6 Fords in my 7 years of driving I love them but I wouldn’t buy a 1.0 ecoboost.

Well you're not going to see any 10-18 year old examples because the engine isn't that old...

I have just rang the dealer about mine. I had the recall earlier in the year for coolant issues as it was loosing coolant rapidly despite me keeping an eye on it daily. They fitted a new degas hose, coolant sensor which apparently gives an audible and visual alarm, new reservoir and some kind of software update etc. Its still loosing coolant, just not quite as rapidly. I also have the clutch slip update as well that needs doing now.

I genuinely hope these things fix the problems, sick of checking the coolant every single day and I don't really trust the car at the moment. There is a Facebook group called Ecoboom, which is filing a class action lawsuit against Ford if any of you are interested. From what I understand of Ford with these recalls they should be doing pressure tests on the engine and potentially replacing engines FOC that have cracks etc, albeit not sure it thats with a new or recon engine or with modified cooling system. For the clutch slip issue, due to overheating or other bits the clutch plate may have cracks in so there is the potential for ford to replace this FOC under the recall.

However multiple reports and photographs on the FB group about them trying to get you to sign a letter saying you accept these repairs as full and final settlement and you may not at a later date, through the class action, make any further claims. If you get this they are suggesting you don't sign it.

I have the 1.6 EB 6 speed.

I have has my 2013 St in for the recall and nothing seems to have changed apart from an annoying rattle from some were that didn't exist before. I have looked all over for maybe a loose bolt or something but with no luck. I just turn the music up it's easier.

Last rattle on my fiesta was one of the bolts that hold the air intake in place at the back top of the bay had sheared off, might be worth a look.

It's an odd one as it didn't do it before the recall. I will have a look and if not I will speak to the dealer. When the dropped it off they said the mechanic has lost a 10mm socket so it might be that hiding some were.

Have you had the engine checked for a crack?

IIRc the 1.6 issues could lead to cracking in part of the engine block which resulted in lost coolant even if the pipes etc were fine.
