Don't really see the problem with the RTX2070 at £450 which is what my brother has just paid for a 2070 Windforce (coming from on board graphics). The £600 price point is a little crazy though For me personally though no need to upgrade from my GTX1080

It’s the same speed as a 1080 three years on.

To be fair, if you can find an RTX2070 for £450, that is comparable to the launch price for the 1070... I know the RRP was around £380, but in reality they were selling for over £400 for at least the first 5 months after initial launch prices.

Your likely to be cpu bound still with faster cards (1080p).
atm how games are designed and created, that level of performance covers 1440p and below.
4k requires so much more still as I wouldnt be happy below 100fps.
144hz 1440p screens are still the goto solution for gamers at that size.
I am happy 4k 120hz started to come out but needs a few more years to mature.

Its not though is it. I have seen plenty of reviews were the RTX2070 beats the 1080 while using less power. Plus you have the potential of features built into the 2070 which are yet to be utilised like DLSS. Factoring in all this at £450 I think it is worth it in todays climate

And ive seen plenty of benchmarks where the 2070 gets a beating by a 1080 and vega 64 in a lot of titles... soo i guess one just have to do a dice roll and hope for the best cause the results are all over the place. That said using not yet released features as a reason for purchase is just silly imho. If it were me then i would rather just wait until a proper game is patched/released to support these new features before making my mind up.

Considering my brother only had onboard graphics before hand and he is unlikely to upgrade again for 7-8 years then I don't see it being a problem.

Time will tell though I guess

I nearly went the 2070 and flog my 1070 route today but I’ve realised that I may as well have just bought a 1080 at launch for the money it will end up costing me if I do.

its basically a 1080 at 1440p. its not faster than the AIB 1080's. a sidegrade, and only 35% faster than a 1070.

He’s buying a card with the same speed as last gen ...save your money buy a used quality 1080...

RTX 2070 is not going to run Any of its new features at playable FPS...

I hope the claims are true and we see real world gains from DLSS, but right now it is vaporware.

Not really a fair statement, as we really don't know how well or badly, any of the new RTX features will run on any of the RTX cards at this point in time.
You might be quite right, but you also might be completely incorrect and until we have some of the features being used we just don't know how well each RTX card will run them.

Trust me ...the RTX demo was run at 1080p and didn’t even hit 60 FPS...

You are all getting conned buying into a tech and gen that will be dead in 12 months...

For clarification, you reckon RTX technology isn't going anywhere or are you just saying just this series of cards will be dead in 12 months?

If a 2080ti struggles to maintain 60fps at 1080p in a modern game then rtx is currently dead in the water.. .

You would imagine nvidia would at least have one launch, showcase game that could perform better if it wasn't a fundamental limitation of the existing silicon.

Buying a 2070 on the basis of its support for rtx features is likely to be a rather I'll advised move.

It's literally almost guaranteed to be the weakest card that will ever be released supporting rtx features and its performance looks to be far from inspiring given current examples of 2080ti rtx performance.
