I am looking to buy the 2080ti FE and fit a block. Will I be OK if i have problems fitting the old stock cooler and sending it back.

Did a web research and couldn't find anything that agreed with each over.

Probably not. Some of the AIBs will be more accommodating, or alternatively you can buy a card pre-fitted with a block if you want a full warranty.

Supposedly they will honour warranty as long as there is no damage to the pcb. There's a post on hardocp from nvidia customer care stating this, though whether that's etched in stone or not is another issue. Its not unusual to get different agents saying different things.

Aye there seems to be some disagreement with what is covered. I have found a few places saying it "should be" and others suggesting that it would not be supported. Whilst others have told me that have to accept it due to some law as long as it is not damaged.

I thought with the founders edition cards you had to removed the front bit of facia that is glued on to remove the cooler, so any warranty claim will show obvious damage if refitted and returned.

Nope , under the facia is just the led controller, the heatsink comes off like the other Fe cards.

Oh if the cooler can be remove without having to remove the facia part then maybe it would be ok.

Getting confirmation of warranty terms from NVidia might be like getting blood out of a stone.

I suppose if in doubt don't rely on being able to get away with a claim if the cooler has been removed/replaced

There's a law in america about being allowed to get a 3rd party to repair something that means "warranty void" stickers are not enforceable. Thats not the same thing as fitting a waterblock yourself which is a modification.

Be nice to have confirmation.

But unless you physically damage the card there is no way to tell it has had a block on it unless you round off half of the screws it will look as factory standard.

You could possibly tell via thermal paste. But if in doubt just fit the same spec paste before returning the card.

Thermal paste would be the giveaway, the stuff nvidia use seems to be a small square wafer they put on the die and not actually paste. You can always tell when you take it off for the first time, its generally quite crumbly around the edges of the die. The thermal paste we use looks nothing like it in comparison if you redo the paste and at a later date take the cooler off again.

I understand why people like doing it themselves but I would rather just buy the Aorus xtreme with the water block fitted. Yeah it will cost a couple hundred more but you will be getting a 4 year warranty and a card that will be a really good over clocker.

Personally given the perceived failure rate of these cards, I'd make damn sure the card is a good one first by running it heavy with the stock cooler for a month before hacking it to bits and potentially risk voiding the warranty.
