So lately I have been hitting things that only PC can do, things like installing firmware for the camera and flashes and actually I like to give VR a try so thinking about putting together a small form factor PC for the little things.

What kind of system should I be looking for and how much would get something “reasonable”. I will need everything from the tower to PSU. Ideally I want something small as possible, like a NUC but I am not sure a NUC can do VR. What kind of money are we talking about for a middle of the road VR rig? Just want to get a reality check whether this can be done for £500 or so, otherwise I will just stick to plan A and get a Surface Go or something.

I plan to get a monitor separately and budget that separately and will put my new MBP into it to run my MAC stuff, so don’t worry about the screen.

A NUC will be useless for VR. You need something with a 3d capable GPU. As above, the more powerful the better. My 290x just about runs everything I throw at it but I would still want moar poweeeer.

I think £500 would sacrifice too much, £600 is possible but not something i would recommend.

You would be far better off saving around £1000 then getting a ryzen 2600, vega 56 and 16GB Ram

To be fair, the £900 rig looks good value considering the Blackmagic e-GPU for the Mac is like £600.

I think I am going to go for a NUC, something like an i5 8th gen, throw in a Samsun Emo 970 and 16G of RAM, should be done around £550 and then if I want to game later on, i can just add a e-GPU.
