What film did you watch last night?

Mile 22

Thought it was poor. Most of the actors mumbled their lines. It seemed like the film was built around a particular cast rather than the other way round. Hammy acting by Wahlberg. I liked Lone Survivor and Patriots Day but this one didn't deliver.

Aquaman - 5/10 - For me this feels like 2-3 films all mashed into the running time of one and suffered for it. I enjoyed watching Momoa and the world of Atlantis but the "Manta" sub-plot wasted time and did nothing (other than show Aquamans regret), the "heir to the throne" main-plot took time away from from "who is Aquaman" and that felt rushed with so much exposition to get into so little time.

The effects, while cool in places, just became too much during the final battle. I feel that this should just have been an origin story - How Aquaman became Aquaman - and the "heir to throne" and "Manta" sob-plots could have been left to later movies. The cast did OK, nothing really to stretch them in the script although I did like Nicole Kidman's role but trying to hang a whole movie on Momoa's "cool guy you'd want to hang out with" persona meant the film felt much weaker when he wasn't on screen.

However despite some negatives I did enjoy enough of the film to give it an enjoyable but overly hectic 5/10.

Mary Poppins Returns.....hated it. Just every which way a poor follow up on the original. Emily Blunt (and cameo of Dick Van Dyke) the only real movie 'stars' worthy of the story/characters. Story: trash. Songs: trash. 2/10.

Creep, another of the found footage type films. Not as bad as I thought it was going to be and not too long to seem boring. 6/10

BirdBox. I have a complaint, in all the madness and chaos of cars crashing and people dying in the road, they can drive from the house to the supermarket with completely covered windows and not hit a single car or lamp post, it was just silly.

Watched Bird Box. Really enjoyed it.

They used the car's proximity sensors. Still a bit silly, but at least they gave it a go with explaining it.

Also watched Crocodile Dundee. First time in a long time. It was fun. But not exactly laugh a minute.

Watched The Omen (1976).
Then listened to the commentary if the film. Apparently, the revenue from the box office success of the film allowed the making of Star Wars to be more extravagant.

Watched "Dan of Thieves" on Netflix on a whim - knew nothing about it other that the trailer and quite enjoyed it! Gerard Butler pretty good in the lead role although for those who have watched Orange Is The New Black, Pornstache will always be Pornstache! :D

Also watched Colombiana a few nights ago and really enjoyed it - not the most original storyline but an enjoyable enough action-fest!

Harry Potter 7 pt 2
Lost interest after the previous 7 outings and was convinced to finish off the series because "the finale was the best"
Utter garbage all the way through. Like watching a school play with worse acting. Completely unnecessary retcon.
Overly long drawn out scenes.
Worst of all they turned voldomort into a compete pussy.

Tomb Raider (2018)

Not bad I guess. Better than I expected but a bit too CGI heavy at times. Worth it if bored and easy to switch in and out off. 7/10

Mary Poppins Returns

I went with my step sister, we loved it! :)

It was such a happy feeling movie, there has been a lot of drama/bad times in my personal life lately so it was exactly what I needed. Emily Blunt was superb! I often caught myself just smiling ear to ear and getting goosebumps along with tapping my feet to the music.

One thing, I haven't seen the original since god knows when and I am curious to see which big references to the original I missed (there were some moments, especially near the beginning I thought they were trying to highlight this, but I didn't understand the reference) - so I will be watching the original in the near future.

Ant Man - 7/10

Another solid Marvel outing.

It's an action comedy so doesn't take itself completely seriously - but still, I couldn't forgive the massive plothole that is the whole "subatomic" thing.

So when they go sub-atomic they enter a world beyond the physical world - like 2001, it's all crazy shapes and doesn't allow any interaction with the material world.

But wait... both Ant Man and Pym's wife go sub-atomic to get through the armour/casing, then come out the other side regular shrunk sized - and able to destroy chips and circruitry (Ant Man is larger than the CPU, which we know is billions of transistors in size and hence thousands of billions of atoms), then for some reason again enter the sub-atomic world, from which they can't escape.

So regular shrunk -> sub-atomic to pass barrier -> regular shrunk (able to interact with the real world) -> sub-atomic and screwed/quantum world.

Does not compute!!! Either you can come back from the subatomic world np or you can't and your're screwed the moment you first go sub-atomic

Train to Busan. Really good and I’m not a big Zombie movie fan. Will watch Seoul Station tomorrow night.

Also just finishing Back to the Future on Film Four. Still a classic.

Very good film. One I usually watch at least once every other year. :)
You can also learn a lot from the commentary by the Director/producer.
For example, in the film Damien Omen 2, when filming on location at a train depot, there were large containers been transported on trains. One particular container was numbered 666. Everyone steered clear of the container.
