Scientists 'find cure for cancer which will be available within A YEAR'

Scientists believe they have found a cure for cancer - and it will be available in just a year.

The bold claim was made by researchers in Israel, who believe their treatment will be effective for all forms of the disease.

Drug company Accelerated Evolution Biotechnologies Ltd (AEBi) also says patients will experience very few side effects from treatment, which will take just a few weeks.

Representative Dan Aridor told The Jerusalem Post: "We believe we will offer in a year's time a complete cure for cancer."

Do you guys believe this ?

No

Source is daily mirror, papers like it, frequently report nonsense claims about cancer cures.

The study also claims that its only been known to work on mice, so the whole thing needs to be taken with a massive pinch of salt.

If there was a cure for cancer I wonder how much it would cost the government to pay out the extra pension cost for people living longer

[..] Do you guys believe this ?

No. Anything to do with science or medicine reported in any non-specialist media is almost certainly untrue.

In this case, it's even worse than usual. The only source is the Mirror, which is probably second only the the Mail in terms of everything causes/cures cancer, and the names are so silly someone is joking. "Accelerated Evolution Biotechnologies" have developed a drug called "MuTaTo"? Come off it. That's a low grade sci-fi game made by a couple of people with limited talent and even less resources or maybe a deliberately cheesy sci-fi game.

Also..."will act as a cancer antibiotic"..."effective from day one, will last a duration of a few weeks and will have no or minimal side-effects". Does it also gift you with Excalibur and the Holy Grail?

Yeah, and it's made from the Forced Evolutionary Virus and anyone who takes it turns into a super mutant. Or maybe a tree or a two-headed cow. Who knows? Even the Enclave's best scientists couldn't predict the outcome.

I'll consider it plausible when it's from a reputable source with a believeable story and some idea of how it works. Better yet, when it's being used on people. If it exists at all and isn't either a scam to acquire money or just plain made up by a journalist for attention.

hmm bold claim yet can't seem to publish anything about it. It hasn't even been shown to work yet let alone go through a load of trials yet the mirror is also quoting the claim that it will be available in a year.

they way they've dumped that headline/claim in there seems like rather irresponsible reporting that could, in a rather cruel way, get cancer patients' hopes up.

edit - a cancer expert's take on it:

I don't believe it.

Also, as much as I want to end the suffering due to illnesses such as Cancer; I'd like to think that we (the world) would bring a rational debate to the table sooner rather than later on the human population and whether or not we should be slowing it (reproduction) for the greater good.

Nope and most trusted sources (e.g. Cancer Research) are pointing out the extremely unlikelihood if it being true. This speaks to the ill-informed concept that there is only one type of cancer that just happens to appear in different parts of the body.

Rofl

Literally every time it’s a slow news day, the mirror/express/daily fail, seem to procedurally generate news relating to cancer cures, or bad weather.

It's weird seeing the random stuff papers churn out. Every time I search for news in google the top few results are articles from the express talking about BBC Breakfast presenters having a falling out, or dropping a clanger or whatever. The headlines are always massively exaggerated, I'm starting to wonder if their editor was dumped by Dan Walker.

Load of tosh unfortunately. It's extremely unlikely for there to be one single cure for all cancer. The name covers so many separate yet similar illnesses that cures are much more likely to be found on a case-by-case basis.
