Would you be able to jump start a car or change a tyre?

Problem is how many cars now don't even come with a spare.

I know a few people who have been caught with a flat, jump out to change it over and realise theres just a can of that goo crap or nothing at all.

Yes I can. I used to build custom motorbikes. Would I change a tyre when I have excellent breakdown cover and wasn't in a hurry? No I wouldn't.
I saw an AA guy putting a spacesaver wheel on a neighbours car just yesterday.
My latest car, a 17 plate Seat, doesn't come with a spare, and I don't think it's even got one of those tyre gunk kits either.

I've done both, I've also jump started a car by letting it roll down a hill into a main road - does that make me alpha+?

Ha. I had to jump my car in a car park once. Nobody else around so I had to push it as fast as I could and Jump in and bump it. Fun times.

I can do basic jobs. I'm no mechanic but I can change wheels, change the battery, replace the odd sensor etc

Yep.Done it plenty of times. Also replaced the thermostat and fuel pump by myself. Fuel pump was the hardest job, but that's Alfa Romeo for you!

And the good old days of a manual choke on a bitterly cold Winter morning.

I do not miss that poxy manual choke!

I don't get a spare with my car (mk3 mx5) just a can of foam.

I used to do all the work on my cars as I couldn't afford to pay a mechanic
Now I don't have time/can't be bothered to do anything but simple jobs myself.

No idea, because I'm a millennial snow flake.

Also file under: Can't wire a plug, can't do wallpapering, fix a dripping tap, put up a shelf, other basic DIY etc.

Actually, mainly because (a) I've never owned a car and (b) because I've never owned a home :)

My car doesn't have a spare but I've had to fit one on my dad's car so am able to do it, also had to change the wheels on a heavy jeep during an experience day at the TA... scarily there was only 3 of us in a group of 18 that knew how to do it.
I've not had to jump start a car yet, but know the process to do it so shouldn't have any major issue getting a car going.

I changed my gear link cables the other day and I'm only a DIYer Nothing is that difficult unless you need specialist equipment.

People who say it's because they've never owned one are just not clearly in using common sense. I've never owned a house until recently and I did all the DIY to that. Plumbed it, wired it up etc etc. It's not rocket science.
