As title, my 1080Ti is being RMA'd for repair/replacement but seeing as there are none about to replace them, would I be better swapping for an AMD 5700XT?
Benchmarks say yes and no.
Budget says yes.

New rig was purchased mainly for X-Plane flight simulator which is very taxing on CPU and GPU. Nvidia wins out for this as flight sim is still OpenGL but they're implimenting Vulkan soon.

Thought?

Good point.
Maybe a 2080 Super then.
Flight sim uses as much VRam as it can so the 1080Ti with 11 vs 8GB was a selling point as well as its speed.
I think 2080 might be pushing it (though you could try by arguing it has less vram). If you can get a custom cooled 2070 Super at least, that's probably be a fair enough replacement I guess.

2080 is the very least you'd want in terms to a 1080ti. 1080ti when overclocked well is still an absolute beast so any AMD 5000 series gpu so far can't touch it or the 2080/2080s

As it stands today the X-Plane code is trash, the AMD driver code is not trash but is not GOOD either. If that is the only game you play then I would get a 2070S FE, assuming you game at 1080p or 1440p.

If they go Vulkan then the 5700XT could be the better card.

I do play other games and usual computer stuff like Office etc.
General workhorse PC but the reason for the expensive 1080Ti over a 1070 was for X-Plane.
Yeah, the code is pretty old but Vulkan should help all round.

It is a beast, love the card but just concerned that if it needs replaced, I’ll have to start again!
Took me long enough to get the 1080Ti.
Never had an expensive top range card before.

I have all three cards in my
lab 5700XT (air), 1080ti custom (water) and 2070FE (air)

1080ti is about 10fps quicker than the 5700XT in 1440p and the 5700XT is very smooth once i get the 5700XT under water next week i expect the gap to be removed.

Hardware unboxed did a decent video with the 5700xt under water. Not as impressive as id have hoped for. This could very well have been down to the silicone lottery though as he couldnt push it past 2100mhz

Surprised no one's asked yet - is your monitor GSync / FreeSync / GSync compatible? And what res and refresh rate? Any plans to change/upgrade monitor in the foreseeable future?

MSI MPG27CQ 1440p 144Mhz. Freesync but is GSync compatible with a few caveats :p
No plans to change as got it with new build for flight simming and just bigger monitor than I had before.
Great monitor actually, I got it before prices went mental so a bargain system all round. Apart from TeamGroup Vulkan 32GB memory which is now £120 cheaper than October, oh well ;)

What I'd really like is a 2080Ti obviously but a 2080 with 11GB Vram would be great. Suppose the new memory they're using is more expensive.
Love the 1080Ti though.

I'd love to see a standard benchmark added for all these YouTube channels where they test hardware on X-Plane or other flight sim.
