MSI MEG Unify

Has anybody got this board yet?

It looks very promising on paper, but I would love to see some real world feedback.

It a stripped back version of the ACE, pretty much the same board minus a couple of things like the heatpipe, memory slot reinforcement, 1 NIC, fan guard, gold accents, infinity display etc.

I read that the unify has the heatsink made of aluminium vs the ace being plastic or something of that sort and it actually did better in the vrm temps compared to the ace. I am in the fence now as well originally I was going for the x570-e but the omission of the 3rd nvme that Asus does drives me mad. Its a shame that there are no reviews yet on this mobo.

Nice colour scheme on the board.

Can someone explain why like the Taichi this also comes with a P/S2 port. Didn’t these die out years ago.

USB 2 on the rear, meh. You know there’s something wrong when ASUS are the only ones that will give you a full compliment of USB 3 on the rear on mid range ATX boards.

I also wondered why that PS2 port is needed these days and I would gladly omit it as i am not using these.

Originally I was favouring Asus boards in regards to USB3 ports, but then realised it makes more sense to me to have an extra nvme.

Problem with the MSI boards Unify is it has 4 sata ports although i don't think i would have a problem with the 3 nvme.

I think you will find the PS/2 requirement is driven from a gaming trend. Something to do with interrupts vs usb polling or some such nonsense. L33t skillz > 125hz yo.
Personally I don't mind as I still have some very old mechanical keyboards, but would rather have had some extra USB ports tbh.

I really like the look of the board, especially the positioning of the chipset fan and the metal heatsink/shroud that actually cools the VRM, rather than a pointless plastic one that makes it hotter.
The only real drawback is the lack of SATA ports as mentioned. Would have preferred to see an extra couple at least, even if they were mutually exclusive with an M.2 slot. I also wish they had dropped the 2.5 Ethernet for the Intel 1Gb off the ace.

I assume nobody has bought one yet then? I'm curious as to how the MSI bios is and if there are any of the known issues are carried over from the ACE (e.g. no front panel sound).

I'm torn between this and the Aorus Pro (which seems to have its own set of foibles).

Thats the issue i have with the x570, I cannot find a mobo that has all the stuff I want.
Loads of USB3.2 and Satas --> Asus
3x NVME --> avoid Asus
Best VRMs --> Aorus
Chipset cooling fan position --> MSI Unify or Ace (not even considering the cheaper ones)
Intel Gigabit ethernet --> have to check individually. (Why Unify why!! I would get it instead of the Ace which has plastic on the vrms)

I was waiting for the reviews for the Unify and I am ready to compromise on missing features like 4 sata instead of 6 or smaller ammount of USB 3.2 etc but its annoying that we have to compromise in this price range these days.
Someone can say hey you can add an addon card for USB3.2, or Intel ethernet or extra NVME etc but my luck with those has proven that they dont work very well.

Do these boards support USB-C on the cases front panel?

x570 elite- entry Aorus range.
only one with UK RMA .

https://www.kitguru.net/components/...x570-vrm-temperature-analysis-luke-deep-dive/

elite has lower PCB/Board temps and voltage. software recording it was 105c for msi vs 70c for aorus - though shouldnt be that big a gap. which wired sensors shows it more along 80-90c range for MSI. still higher then Aorus- but with game- both boards are just fine!!!!!

I did not even realise this only had 4 sata connectors on the board. That’s a definite no from me then.

I thought the Crossfire Hero had 3x NVME slots? Is there an issue with ASUS and NVME drives?

Good list very helpful.

I miss the days when spending £300+ would get you everything you needed on a board.

Thank you for that ill have a look.

Not sure why appart from the sheer amount of usbs and satas they used gimped the extra nvme i guess. Even the x570-e has a stupid amount of usb 3.2 i think 7+1. I find it weird how Asus though doesn't offer a board with 3 nvme as that would be more future proofing in my mind than having 8 satas that i will never use.

It's at times like these you wish DFI Lanparty were still around.

The Gaming Edge is known to be awful on thermals and VRM, basically the only decent x570 MSI boards are the Unify, Ace and Creation. The Godlike is also fine, but just a pointless board in general.

crossfire hero VIII only has 2 nvme drives and gigabyte boards with more sata slots loose some when there 3td slot is used.

Mon most boards with 6 sata and 3nvme will loose 2 sata it’s either or when using the chipset . Not to sure if any have added a extra sata controller though

Another thing I’ve learned, thank you.

Still undecided on which board to get. I’ve put the Taichi back on the list. If it goes down to £250 or thereabouts again I may just grab that and put the £100 saved on not getting the Hero toward a new screen or better gfx card.

I was between the unify, the ace and now the hero wifi but i am confused. If say i am on crossfire and use also the 3rd pciexpress for a pciexpress to nvme then the lanes would be 8x + 8x +1x, i read that somewhere for the CHVIII? so the nvme would be crippled? I wouldn't mind getting a pciexpress to nvme adaptor if it works in the future but if it doesn't work might as well get a mobo with 3nvme anyway. oh well decisions decisions.
