£3.5k for a cpu - " such incredible value for money"

Really? Lol

Yes absolutely, those who think its expensive it is clearly not aimed at those people, the people who realise what this CPU is and its intended use know full well its mega cheap for the performance it will offer in the task such potential owners will use it for.

you could build 5 x Ryzen 3900 12 core, though that would still make it short on core count, perfect match would be 8 x 3700X

DE
My basket at Overclockers UK:
Total: £3,277.45 (includes shipping: £12.60)

then add in 5-8 worth of software, Drives , PSU, GPUs... all adds up more and more power

But no company does this, a company wanting a machine to render wants the most powerful machine they can buy with huge memory support. We have a client who already has us testing 3990X with 128MB modules as they are interested in 3990X with 1TB of RAM. One big powerful PC is more efficient than 5 or 8 separate systems and cheaper too.

indeed, was highlighting it to poster that 3990X has its worth . 3.7ghz all core overclock to ....

might want to stock Eisbaer 420 AIOs ! seems heat is the key issue with high overclocks.

looks like they'll have to wait for WTRX boards for 1tb =/

For reference regarding the 'value' discussion, this is the closest competition the 3990X has:

intelvamd.jpg

The Intel chip is a data-center CPU and gets blitzed by the 3990X.

The image is pulled from the LTT video linked above.

We are testing it because it may actually be possible and as we have a client who spends millions with us it is worth our time, we also have AMD and Corsair looking into, plus Asus too, so fingers crossed. :)

what wattage was that pulling? just seen a review and the wattage at 3.8 was crazy

Never checked, 8 Pack may have more details but power consumption is not a worry on this platform for us, as the saving over Intel is simply massive.

I'd imagine that even when overclocked, the CPU power consumption must still be significantly lower than an Intel 9200 56 core CPU.

In the market for a CPU like this next year for my homelab, hopefully they can keep pushing the envelope with the next generation too when 7nm euv is in production.

AMD prob could, waste though business wise when they could sell more expensive chip with 8 memory channels . But for a Reseller... £££££££££ !

Nice reviews popping up
