Hi there,
Just wondering if anyone could help me put together a shopping list, I'm looking to build a pc for my partner for her birthday, capable of playing Apex legends, deep rock galactic and rocket league. Doesn't need to be max settings or anything.

£500 excluding peripherals and windows OS.

Cheers, Ash.

My basket at Overclockers UK:
Total: £514.45 (includes shipping: £12.60)

CPU is a placeholder as they are out of stock here, and no idea if/when they will be back in stock. So you would need to shop around for a 1600 af CPU .They seem to be a little thin on the ground at the moment, and the price seems to have been slowly climbing as they have become popular, but should hopefully still be able to get one around the £90 mark.

2600X elsewhere is cheaper. It also comes with a better cooler than the 2600. And obviously slightly faster. Up to you. It's only £10 more from OCUK if you'd rather buy everything from one place.

As above I think ill look for a 2600x elsewhere, save myself the headache and stick to budget.
Its hard not to spend "a little more and a little more" before you end up with an £800 build :D

Thank you so much for your help!

Ash.

As above.

The Gigabyte B450M DS3H is one of the weaker B450's on the market.

The minimum consideration should be the Asrock B450M Pro 4 at £70:

My basket at Overclockers UK:
Total: £70.99 (includes shipping: £0.00)

After that you're looking at the MSI B450 MAX boards or Pro Carbon, there's not a lot else worth bothering with as far as B450's go.

You will be best to get the 1600AF. It is effectively a 2600 but rebadge and cheaper.

If you can stretch your wallet a little bit get a NVMe drive (not the QLC ones). Or a faster DRAM SSD drives that’s not the WD blues and the likes.

I just bought parts for my build with similar budget but managed to get the following
MSI B450m mortar max
Ryzen 1600AF
Crucial ballistix Sport 3200 c16 2x16GB. (I need the ram for my work and my photo and video edits)
GTX 1660 Super (I cant go Radeon as I need the CUDA units for acceleration)
Thermaltake Versa H18 matx case
Corsair MP510 480gb

total cost was £550. But going to a 16GB ram and going to Radeon graphics will easily shave off £100-£130 off that price.

I will be reusing my current enermax gold PSU and Corsair H100i cooler so that’s a bit of saving for me. Also I got plenty Corsair SP12 fans on my current system so will be using those as well

btw I went msi board cos I know I will be putting in a 3900 or 3950 in the near future. As the extra cores will give me real boost in time spent. But if you don’t think you need the extra cores and can live with 6 core or 8 core then most of the b450 board will be suitable. As previously said, some boards aren’t capable Ofer delivering the power need for the high end CPUs but taking 3700 or 3600 still should be ok. But realistically a cheap board vs msi is only going to make 20-30 quid difference.
