Hi folks,
Trying to spec a system for my friend - he'll be using Ableton Live 10 and Reason 11 Suites for music production. I understand they work well with multi-core CPUs and plenty of RAM.

Graphics card isn't really needed as he doesn't game, but I've added a discrete card to remove the need for on-board graphics to hog any ram.

Most importantly, the system needs to be as quiet as possible, hence the BeQuiet! case, cooler and fans, plus have plenty of USB ports for all the peripherals...

I've put a basket together, which I'll be asking OCUK to build for him (he's in Sunderland, I'm in Portsmouth, otherwise I'd build it for him), but I'm not sure on whether to go 3900X & X470, or 3700X & B450.

My basket at Overclockers UK:
Total: £1,430.57 (includes shipping: £14.70)

If aim is lowest noise, goal should be minimizing need for old "spinning rust" and using it only as most of the time power save sleeping long time "cold" storage and not as working storage.
And anyway in that budget PC 1TB SSD is sensible minimum.
That WD SN550 doesn't even cost really more.

And having that quiet in brand name doesn't automatically mean products are actually designed for that.
Bequiet used to make (now discontinued) very good combination damping mat.
But their cases have never used that instead of using light cosmetic fraud foams not good at preventing light metal sheets from vibrating or increasing acoustic opacity.

Fractal Design Define uses proper sturdier construction with mass damping.

Weight is good consultant for sturdiness of cases and Define R6 is ~2/3 heavier.
That also helps to keep down noises from HDDs compared to light flimsy cases.

gonna mount the other 2 on your forehead? :p

besides i'm not sure why you'd want to get a 12c production rig when a 16c production rig is literally only £150 dearer
Thanks for that - you make a good case. I'll update my friend and see what he thinks - the build cost is roughly £100, which goes slightly over the £2k budget, but he feel it's worthwhile.
