"At the time, there was no evidence that the virus was readily spread by humans. Health officials in China said they were monitoring it to prevent the outbreak from developing into something more severe."

https://www.nytimes.com/article/coronavirus-timeline.html

It's down to the Chinese hiding information and telling lies.
And then in January they announced that it was spreading in humans which is “months ago”...

Were they hiding information and telling lies by telling us that it was just like flu and that it would be gone by April when it warms up?

Trump lies and spreads misinformation every day at his press briefing. You completely ignore that though because he passed a tax cut that saved your family a couple of dollars.

I don't think anyone is saying they should have been stockpiling thousands of ventilators. That is incredibly expensive. They could have been researching a ventilator that could be mass produced very quickly with minimal tooling required though.

They did do that https://www.who.int/medical_devices/innovation/new_emerging_tech_36.pdf

Product description The device will transform ventilatory care through its small size, portability, ease of use, versatility and extended battery life. By costing as little as a third of other ICU ventilators and offering both invasive and noninvasive capabilities, the device is ideally suited, no matter what their location or severity

Wow this is damning. But then grifters are going to grift and Trump is a grifter so no surprise he's allowed people to profit from this crisis

Profit isn't a dirty word, people are driven to meet the demands of the market to earn a profit, meeting the demands of a market in a crisis isn't bad unless you're a monopoly and limiting supply artifically or something.

For most people that is true, whether it's ethical or not is the point I imagine. A nation's leader should not be profiting from anything when that nation is in crisis.

Profit gouging is though. Taking advantage of a crisis to push up the price. The Fed Gov could have stepped in here, bought all these and then distributed them to the States as required at cost. The suppliers still make their money and the States aren't forced to bid against each other. The way this is being handled is very wrong and easily avoidable.

So they were putting that together in the second half of Jan and first half of Feb when it was clear this was going to get very serious? There are no dates on that PDF.

And the masks??

If you don't allow an incentive to meet market demands, then people won't meet them, you're living in a fairy tale if you think people are going to do things for free. Are Doctors profiteering by attending work during a crisis and earning a salary to save lives? Of course not.

Not really, no. You claimed that there was no difference in meaning between "soon" and "eventually", which is simply wrong. You were forced to acknowledge that you'd changed the words, but you didn't admit it was a mistake - you just excused it and said it didn't make any difference.

It was a mistake but it won’t be “gone”, it will require mass vaccination, it will probably require yearly shots to stop it coming back.

On a social scale, a curable disease few people get is sort of gone.

I dont think the claim that it’s gone is really stands up (even if you take the leap that Trump was actually implying), so many factors will will impact our ability to hold this back, vaccinate against it etc etc.

Thanks

The 750,000 volunteers signed up to help the NHS beg to differ.

Also, plenty of companies are doing things for free in this time of crisis. Profit is not a dirty word no, but the absolute free market thinking is just so blinkered, especially when the free market is asking the tax payer to keep them going at this time.

Are Doctors profiteering by attending work during a crisis and earning a salary to save lives? Of course not.

That's a rather silly analogy since the Doctor is just being paid to do his normal job.

Notice his explanation and descriptive vocabulary is very limited. Whenever he tries to articulate anything specific it's a rambling mess of waffle and nonesical garbage.

Hillary nailed it with the eclipse reference. He doesn't understand "big burny thing burns your eyes, don't look at it" and he's 'leading' a country through this mess.

That's the thing with this crisis he can't BS his way or bluff his way out of this situation. How people can't see just how incomptent and phoney this man is, is staggering.
