What is white privilege?

. . . white people are motivated by racism . . .
"motivated by racism", a curious idea if ever I heard one.

I don't think that "motivation" is the issue in question here, I think that you will find that some people consider that a section of society suffers from an irrational prejudice against others, this prejudice will result in their making irrational judgements and in some cases, acting irrationally on their prejudice.

We've got relatively little racism at the moment so woke people concern themselves with fighting perceived "microaggressions" or attempts to find racism when looking at disparate outcomes between groups.... virtue signalling and no substance.

The below two tweets sum up the difference between liberalism and woke idiots rather nicely - posted 5 months apart - real issue (and one of the few clear examples of systemic racism) vs virtue signalling and taking offence at trvial stuff:

Funnily enough the department of justice recently concluded after their two year investigation that Yale and Harvard have been actually institutionally discriminating against white and asian students!

More about the Trayvon Martin bit, they never stated they were killed by police.

As for the evidence and racial breakdown, I've not seen numbers that support your claim, white people are the majority of police killings but black people are still killed at a disproportionately high rate*. Regardless, are any of their numbered points bad things, even if you disagree with the race angle what's wrong with the points they made?

*can't remember who, but someone on here made a point about higher interactions with police, more likely to be involved in violent crime etc. but i'm yet to see a proper study that includes all these other factors.

This is like highlighting a gender pay gap where you completely ignore the job performed and hours worked etc... It's a naive comparison at best "disproportionately high" relative to the population - so what? That doesn't demonstrate any racism, there are a disproportionate number of black criminals involved in violent crime too...

None of this means the average black person who isn't a criminal has a higher chance of being killed by the police than anyone else living in the same area/of the same demographic save for race/ethnicity.

This ice cream firm has claimed:

The murder of George Floyd was the result of inhumane police brutality that is perpetuated by a culture of white supremacy. What happened to George Floyd was not the result of a bad apple; it was the predictable consequence of a racist and prejudiced system and culture that has treated Black bodies as the enemy from the beginning.

Firstly while it is plausible it was the result of police brutality it's not completely clear yet, it's not gone to trial. There is an argument that the officer involved might have been using an approved technique, there is also the question of just how much he contributed vs the drugs taken and underlying health issues given Floyd was already saying "I can't breathe" before even put on the floor.

Regardless of that, there certainly isn't anything to say that the arrest and treatment was racially motivate or the result of white supremacy.

The whole Ben & Jerry's statement reads like a smear campaign against Trump and little more than an attempt to somehow portray the death of George Flloyd as a result of White Supremacist groups who apparently form the backbone of Trump's voter base. So apparently the death of George Flloyd is the president's fault.

However you feel about Trump I think it's a bit of a stretch to believe that and worrying too see companies deliberately trying to smear politicians to influence elections.

Wow at Ben and Jerry's ploughing in there like that.

Glad people are pushing back against the madness now tbh. Hopefully common sense will prevail in the end.

This is right on point.

I don't like trump but these crazy far left companies try to blame literally everything on Trump, shootings, coronavirus, riots etc. It makes them look stupid.

So after 34 pages, have you come to a decision what White Privilege is?

I got shouted at by an drunk guy a few days ago and through the content of what I could work out from his ramblings I wouldn't have got that if i was white.

so if you have found what it is. You can add "not having to listen to the incoherent ramblings of a madman" to the list

I believe the general feeling is that a better term for "white privilege" would be " majority privilege" or "indigenous privilege".

If a white person travels to Asia or Africa do they still have "White Privilege". Or does it evaporate the moment you step into a country where you aren't part of the majority of the population ethnicity?

"White Privilege" is a racist term invented by those looking to blame and shame all white people for the actions of a tiny minority of actual racists. The implication being that all white people are inherently racist and it's not an issue other ethnicities have which clearly isn't the case. In most cases it's simply being used as an excuse to implement positive discrimination and reverse racism (anti-racism!) as far as I can see.

Nah we still have to put up with that nonsense. Just look at this thread. Full of incoherent ramblings of madmen (and women potentially or neither?).

Yeah hopefully this push back on racists and racism will have a positive impact on the future.

Only to those that refuse to see the connections.

Anti racism is reverse racism? Wow thats some jump.

Perhaps a fairer term other than "majority privilege" would be "BAME Underprivilege" if the term is intended to reflect race.

That would highlight that minority groups can experience additional difficulties and issues without the phrase being perceived as an attack on other ethnic groups?

I was just having a laugh. But the reason i said he wouldn't if i was white was because of the fact he literally was shouting at me because I'm black.

I didn't even realise he was speaking English at first as he was so drunk but essentially boiled down to me coming over here and stealing your women (which my partner found amusing as she's Welsh) and a comment on how she must be happy down to another myth...

To be fair it's the first time I've actually noticed being shouted directly at for a while, at least 5 or 6 years but it's the first time my partner has ever experienced something like it

She's Welsh, send her back!!! Drunken morons are gonna moron, but you're right, he's picked you because of your skin colour. Feel free to smack people like him in the mouth when I'm president for life.

Pretty perfect analogy there Silvagti. Think this concludes what white privileged actually is.
