*** Apple Event (new Apple Watches, iPads etc) 15th September at 18:00 UK ***

Yep I'm sorry if my post rained on anyone's parade, I want to see new shiny just as much as you lot! I hope I'm proved wrong too.

They already confirmed in an earnings call that the iPhones would go on sale a few weeks late.

It looks like they have just swapped the events around and will launch watches and non-pro iPads early and phones later.

I can see them launching the next gen chips, iPhones, and iPad Pro’s in October.

I can’t see them launching anything with next gen chips prior to the iPhone event, that will effectively announce the core specs of the phones.

I really hope the iPad Air has the A14 chip (every iPad Air to date has been released with the latest chip). They've announced new chips on iPads before, which then went on to be used on iPhones, but not recently (we have to go back to A5 with iPad 2 which was then used on iPhone 4S six months later).

According to rumours it will be OLED and will have Face ID, with A14 of course which is expected to be a big upgrade over A13. So probably enough to spend a couple of hundred pounds extra versus the 2020 SE.

Given how long I've had the 6s, I'll get my moneys worth out of it lol

If these rumors around no iPhone announcements are true and it only being a Watch/iPad event are true (which I still highly doubt) I wonder what they will fill the 2 hour event with, as it's a virtual event so there won't be 45 minutes of clapping.

Did they say it will be a 2-hour event though? Even WWDC was less than 2 hours this year. I expect this to be much less.

Don't think they've confirmed length, or if they have I haven't seen it. We're still in the crazy COVID world for stuff like this, so it's all very new. It could well be like WWDC and much more streamlined. WWDC was 1hr50m I believe. I guess my opinion here, is that anything less than that sort of length isn't worth having an event for, but that could well be me. I don't think they've historically done then any shorter have they?

I don't recall the event duration ever being publicised beforehand.

/edit - With the "Time Flies" tagline, perhaps it'll only be twenty minutes :D

They've had plenty of events which were about an hour.

The "time flies" tagline makes it seem like its going to be watch related.

I would bet on quite a few apple devices, just not the iphones as they usually have their own event.

It’s possible but I think it’s unlikely. The March update was very minor and the Pros still use the old A12 and not the A13 found in the iphone 11. If the cheaper iPads get the A14, they’ll have to update them because they’ll likely be slower.

Surely not new iPad Pro’s? The latest ones only came out in March.

But the A12z is pretty pointless as an upgrade ont he older one... I assume the new ones will have the A14x which should be considerably more powerful than the A12x

A12z is the pros is actually a faster chip than the A13.

That’s why I said the A14 and not the A13.

That said the marketing required to make the A12X to sound better than an A13/14 will not be worth it against just updating the Pros to A14X.

Does anyone think we will see a new A13/14 Mac mini, along side a 12” MacBook? That would be a very safe bet for an initial entry. A new Mac Mini could potentially be half the size of the current one and based off a iPad PCB.

While I do expect to see an Apple Watch update, ‘Time flies’ could well be misdirection and actually refer to how quickly time has passed since WWDC. Their intent of launching ARM based Macs in the fall is approaching very quickly.

I don’t think we’ll see any ARM macs next week, but I’m pretty sure we’ll see Mac Minis with Apple Silicon this year alongside the MacBook. Maybe for no other reason than to give people a retail version of the DTK so that people can begin larger scale testing of software.

I expect the iPad Pro line to be upgraded in March next year though. If we were going to see a new iPad Pro next week we would have seen some leaks already.

I think we finally agree on something :D
