AMD Navi 23 ‘NVIDIA Killer’ GPU Rumored to Support Hardware Ray Tracing, Coming Next Year

After recently watching some 8k game tests, these games eat up to 20gb vram at 8k, so I agree 32gb to future proof it!

How can you possibly future proof it when the card won’t run 8k in any playable or acceptable form (as proven by 3090...)? It’s not like having the memory is any use unless you can upgrade the thing it’s attached to. Nvidia crazy talk.

Congrats on buying a card that costs 110% more than a 3080 and performs only 10% better while being significantly more huge and heavy. FOMO marketing at its finest. :p

Knowing what you know now I cannot get my head around anyone sweating £1700 on a 3090 F5 battle. I was in the market to replace SLI 2080Tis but it’s clearly a dud product for most use cases.

Unless there is no research done at all it’s just a mental decision for average consumers.

Ah maybe you're an exception to the rule. I pretty much just play videogames and watch films on my PC via MADVR.
Maybe might get into video editting and some point, and photo editting but they're not that tied to VRAM even with 4k footage.

That's fair enough and at some stage in life I was the same.

I have 3 kids now. Eldest is 8 and two boys are under 3. Anyone whos a parent will know this eats up a lot of your time, so gaming is actually a unicorn compared to my WoW days of 2005. I try to do useful things on the machine, before mining I used to crunch the science projects on BOINC so having a decent GPU has always been a factor even if I have been skint and had to get a low-end upgrade.

So yeah, whilst people think graphics cards are just about features for gaming, you can use them for way more productive things like parallel computing, password cracking etc. So apologies if I dont buy into the premature raytracing/DLSS hype in advance I just think these things are in their infancy and wont be a thing for a while (VRAM and rasterisation are still the main items Im afraid) so your run of the mill requirement as with CPU's is things like power efficiency per watt and regular performance.

Low effort, power gobbling, virtually impossible to buy product.

Yes this is the important thing. Fanboyism aside, what you think would happen if AMD were in this postition? They would be trolled to high heaven and the smarmy snobbery would be aplenty that's for sure. I feel really sorry for the guys wanting a 3080 - I really do as this was a decent product but being in such small quantities is embarrassing and they need to get a grip of themselves bragging about being king of 8k and all that. Get back to basics and stop willy waving!

Yup, Vega got a ton of flack, it was a decent gpu just not what the gaming community expected (when does a gpu ever live up to that level of hype?). No real oc headroom really points to nvidia clocking the tadger off these chips, again a similar position to what AMD have been in for the last lot of releases.

Good thing about being a vega user is we know how to undervolt/overclock and mess with settings to get it running full tilt without breaking any sweat! ;)

Drivers.. pffft we have weather enough storms to brush that rubbish off.

if money is no object, then why not? otherwise, you are just handing NV a ton of extra cash for what id call a low effort product.
Just because you have the cash to buy a dud doesn't mean you should actually spend it on a dud and I predict that the amount of buyers remorse from all of these initial FOMO 3090 purchases is going to be huge. I don't think most people will even realise how big and heavy it until they get their hands on it... it dwarfs the 2080Ti.

It's just an awful card, imo the worst value Nvidia have ever released, and I can only confirm my belief that the 2080Ti was a far better purchase at launch than this Frankencard.

You know it will be hidden behind a wall of excuses as usual... Get ready for a boatload of "but AMD drivers suck" and "AMD draws more power....." oh wait they are about to lose that excuse too :p

Haha, that meme won't ever die... Glorious :D
