Currently looking to upgrade my gaming computer. I have about £500-£1000 to spend.


Im only looking to do 1080p gaming at 75hz (as thats the monitor i currently have) Though suggestions for 1440p would be welcome as i may look at a new monitor down the like if its worth it.


My current build is as follows.


Ryzen 5 3600

B450 Tomahawk

Geforce 1070 8gb

Corsair TX650M PSU

Corsair Vengeance LPX Black 16GB (2x8GB) 3200 MHz AMD Ryzen Tuned DDR4

My OS is on a 1tb SSD.


Games im looking at playing and Control, Cyberpunk 2077, Red Dead 2, Civ 6, Borderlands 3.


I was originaly thinking of replacing it all, but then i thought if im not going to update the monitor ill be getting power i cant use.


Im sure the main thing to change is going to be the GPU, if i do that will i need a new PSU? Also is the new Ryzen entry CPU much better than the 5 3600?


Are there any good budget 1440p monitors that could be recomended?

The 5600x is about 19% faster due to much improved IPC so that will help at 1080p.
My basket at Overclockers UK:
Total: £328.69 (includes shipping: £8.70)

you will need the bios update to use it which should be out next year.

A rx 3060ti will improve everything at 1080p and easily allow the use of 1440p when you want to upgrade. £420+
Obviously a 3070 will give you better 1440p FPS £600+

Your tx 650 has enough power to drive the 3060ti so no need to upgrade it unless your after better effeciency.

Its the older version but still a very good psu for the money with a 10 year warranty.Also enough for a power a rx 3070.

These 2 monitors seem to be will regarded. (G-sync compatible)

This is just what i was after, thanks for the info. Do the AMD cards when available offer a better price/power output?
Also should i decide to get the 3070 now is that 650 still ok? or should i get 750/850?

The 6800xt is about £680-800
The 6800 is about £6-700 which is faster than the 3070.
|(if you can find one at 'normal' prices ATM)

They are comparable on performance to nvidia as long as you dont care about ray tracing.

A 650 watt psu is the recommended size psu for a 3060 and 3070. A 750 would be the most you would want to get with a 3070. Just make sure its a gold or better rated effeciency.

I'd grab an RTX 3070 and a either a dell S2721DGF or a LG27GL850 monitor.

No point in upgrading the CPU for 1080p 75hz and if you go for a 1440p monitor then you would still get more fps for your money by going for the next tier up of GPU as you will be mostly GPU bound.

I was running an RTX3080 no problem with a 3600 at 1440p and having recently upgraded to a 5800X the difference was quite small in most the games I play for example in tomb raider I went from 139 > 156fps and that was one of the largest differences I saw with most only being 5 or 10.

A 3070 would also be fine with your current PSU especially with a 65w CPU like the 3600 although if you went for a 3080 then a 750w unit would be better.

If you want a 3070/3060ti consider the Founder Edition (FE).

Priced at £469 and £369, they offer the best value at the moment. (when they are in stock)

Don't pay over the odds for a GPU as your 1070 is not that bad.
