4k mode scalled down by Sony/Nvidia

Seriously though you are right. Theres nothing wrong with being younger as we all started off somewhere but the attitude doesnt help you should be at least trying to educate yourself rather than putting people down and talking utter nonsense about something you are clueless about. You stand out like a sore thumb talking that kind of talk on here as so many people know so much more about it.
 
Consoles have been "stretching the truth" for a while, when they say 4k, the only thing you can take from that is thats the resolution of the signal. Rendering, level of detail etc. tricks may be utilised to achieve performance targets.
only the same as dlss :p;):D everyone gets upsets about consoles and the fake 4k but thats where nvidia stole the idea of dlss from

I'm not silly enough to imagine all games are going to suddenly get over 10/16 times faster but could games render twice as quick, or smart with culling? Maybe.

Game frametimes aren't 100%rastered shaders. I need to dig up a recent quote again where a developer said they looked into but were t going to bother with mesh shaders cause it had low single digit gains on their game engine and involved quite a bit of work to implement

These manufacturers are running gimmicks on us!

The PlayStation 5 runs 4k 60Hz , but then when you set 4k at 120Hz, it scales down the graphics, reducing effects, even going as far as removing crowds from racing games and dimming effects etc. So that it can run the game smoothly. Sony never said this before purchase, purchasers might feel like their pants have been pulled down after the purchase of expensive TV and the console to run 4k at 120 fps only to find out that the detail is reduced.

Also, I reckon Nvidia are doing the same nonsense. I still reckon their 4k120Hz on RTX 3 series cards are not entirely at the same detail as 60Hz. Maybe slight detail reduction?

Still looks way better than 1080P and 1440P used by the average crap gaming PC.

Plenty using a 3080 at 1440p for those wanting high frame rates, and last time i checked over on DF cyberpunk runs at 1188p on PS5 and FPS in the 50's range. So 1440p is still going to look and run better in demanding games on a "crap" PC with a 3080.

Why does it not surprise me that you are still making silly comments like this. Are you still using a 6700k? :rolleyes:
 
I am not upset, am a happy owner of both a ps4 pro and a series S ;)

I just know what I am getting into with consoles, you get simplicity.
hey no dig from me, i have both. why not as you say consoles do generally just work especially for people who arnt as patient as you have to be in the pc gaming industry with current dev trends etc.
 
To me, 30fps is unplayable

You clearly didn't live in a time with half that frame rate was acceptable. Nothing wrong with a 30FPS game depending on the genre, but still 30FPS is acceptable to very good, no need to be an FPS snob when it doesn't matter too much on the game, geeze many of us here grew up on systems we were happy to get 10FPS to 15FPS because that was the best available and we enjoyed the games no matter the FPS rate they played at, some of my favourite games from the past didn't even do 15FPS.

Today 30FPS is acceptable 60FPS ideal and 120FPS well that's a wish list and available on some games with cerain hardware combinations. But if you want high quality settings for graphics be happy with 30fps or 60fps depending on the game genre. Nothing wrong to me with an adventure type game at 30FPS with amazing quality visuals.

60fps has been the norm for a long time though, 70s, 80s and most of the 90s, 60fps was the standard - games were designed to run at the TV's refresh rate, which is 60hz - 30fps was considered nonsensicle for most of gaming history

This guy lol. I would avoid any 30fps game in 2021.

50 to 60fps is my minimum , anything under that is unplayable to me. 30fps feels too sluggish and you can see the stuttering.

A case of unrealistic expectations, I'm afraid.

4K+120Hz still requires a top-end PC GPU to pull off. Even then you'll dip below 100 FPS in many games at times.

Expecting a PS5 or XSX to do the same and not reduce details, or otherwise cheat ... well, good luck with that :)
 
Assuming you aren't using any dynamic scaling options with target fps etc then no, 120hz on PC isn't going to be lower detail than 60hz.

The net result might be the same though, you could have someone upgrade from a 60hz to 120hz screen and lower the settings to boost framerate, it's just that would be their personal choice.

The issue with consoles is historically they've had issues with games not running at consistent framerates, sometimes the actual game speed is linked to the framerate is some way. So you they want a fairly reliable 120fps, not 80-120fps or wahtever.
