I wouldn't be surprised if half the players don't even realise you can change your loadout. Judging by the distinct lack of Anti-Air weapons being used

I think there are a lot of things that many players dont know, like changing your loadout and the fact that a medic or sniper can have AA weapons, plus the B key to drop in vehicles and the robot dog to your position, plus that you can tie down a helicopter or tank using the EMP on the drone thereby preventing it from being a threat, plus that you can use the drone to allow other players to lock on to a vehicle with their weapons. Though to be fair there are probably quite a few people that are/will be playing in the beta who wont be playing at release and are just messing about because its a new title rather than playing with any actual intent to win.

Finally managed to play two full rounds last night and I'm left... Underwhelmed? Granted I haven't really touched the Battlefield series since 4 (dabbled in 1 but gave 5 a wide berth) but it doesn't feel overly Battlefield-esque to me, more Warzone. The gun handling seems off, can't explain why but I just wasn't gelling with any weapons aside from the AK - though a lot is probably down to the mediocre hit detection.

The vehicles I barely used; tried the AA APC thing for one round and can't say it was much fun. A minigun that does next to no damage to players let alone vehicles and anti-air missiles that are hit-or-miss if they'll actually track a target (and no not being thrown off by counter measures). Plus the little EMP thing on the drone just made it completely pointless to use because you can then do nothing whatsoever.

I tried the Littlebird. I don't think I'll be trying it again. I adored helicopter piloting in the earlier titles, and was fairly proficient at it (especially the Littlebird). But the whole flight model felt janky as hell and the default controls are horrific, really couldn't wrap my head around it at all. Though once I got used to it a bit more I was quite happy dogfighting with other choppers :D

Didn't get to experience the storm thing, can't imagine it adds much judging by videos I've seen. The infantry combat / involvement on the Orbital map seemed very, what's the world, pin-pointed? People hitched a ride to one objective and then spent the majority of their time staying there, not moving over to other capture points. Maybe it's just the map layout and huge open spaces, but it was quite mind-numbing either waiting for enemies to show up, or trying to cross to another point and getting obliterated by a tank sat off in the distance somewhere.

Probably won't be a day one purchase for me, but then I have only played it when I'm knackered and less likely to enjoy it anyway

I think EA posted on Twitter that their doing "essential maintenance" on servers before the public access. Obviously the down time started half an hour ago when I got home and resumes again 10:00 Uk time.

I'm enjoying it so far to be honest. I feel like everyone is just running around figuring out how things work at the moment and more tactical/team play will come in time. I don't really care about the specialists that much, but I feel like there are too many gadgets in one slot. For me, the grappling hook has to be changed. If it was more like the grappling hook in BF2 Special Forces that would be good; can still access higher areas without everyone zooming around horizontally. Sliding is also horrible, as usual. I can slide into a rock and then just slide right up and over it.

It has loads of potential though.

I managed to get in for the first time about half an hour ago; thought it looked like garbage until I realised that it had been set to 720p for some reason and 59Hz; looks much better at 1440p and 165Hz
Finding the map a bit dull though; need to have a proper play tonight though; likely on the pre-order list now though

Just played my first round, no waiting to get in, pretty good so far.

No active spotting? Q just seems to set marker points. One attempted revive which seemed to fail, medics seem few and far between apart from that lol

feels ok to play gameplay wise - but not sure the graphics are that good? maybe its just cos beta?
main thing im not liking is the setting slightly future thing - just very generic
weapons dont feel beefy

Have they said whether spotting is in the game at all? I know over the years spotting has been a contentious issue and I notice that the Q keybind is referred to as Ping rather than Spot. The drone appears to auto spot so I did wonder if they had made a design decision to make spotting a feature of a gadget rather than something all 128 players could do but I dont know as I cant seem to find any info on whether the game is supposed to have the traditional spotting style in it or not

Played one match and I am very underwhelmed. The game looks just a tad better than BF4 from 2013 and runs worse, much worse (I'm sure it's technically much better but it does not translate into actual noticeable improvement). On 3080 at max settings ultrawide 1440p I am getting 70-80fps but even if I lower everything to minimum I ma still just getting 120fps and the game still feels laggy.

So overall, in my opinion if you want to play BF2042 then just play BF4, its the better BF2042 game.

On a side note, what is up what FOV setting being zero by default and goes from zero to 100 and seemingly has no relation to vertical nor horizontal FOV(game says its vertical but how can it be zero). Who thought this up? Why change the standard? It's just so infuriating, it's like the devs are making the game as annoying as they possibly can on purpose.

Just played a round. bit stuttery, but I enjoyed it, I'm gonna be on the hunt for a copy I reckon. I thought I spotted a tank so i think it is working for tanks at least. I like the grand scale of it

Could be that nobody thought it up or made it deliberately annoying and that the FOV function and UI is just because its a beta build from August and that it wont be that way in release (as some UI functionality has already been confirmed to be beta build and not what we get at release) , I mean thats a possibility right? In my experiences betas do tend to be infuriating in a variety of ways but then I'm old school beta, before the perception of beta became demo. Maybe it will be different in release maybe it wont but I do at least give them some leeway as its beta.

Well that's the thing, what is called beta now used be to be call demo when betas were an actual thing and betas were work in progress. This is a demo that is showing what the game will be on release. Beta has become a marketing term as opposed to a stage in game development and it happened 10 years ago already if not more.

Any and all excuses from any other release that were saying that the beta is buggy because it is just a beta build were always proven to be wrong and the games would come out buggy mess almost identical to "beta" build, I see no reason to think otherwise in this case.
