Aio aio

I know, 100% agreed.... I think he's just after a mounting point / excuse for RGB (kids! **sigh**).... hence my recommendation for the RGB fans and don't mess with the cooling... why make it less reliable, if you don't have to...

Plus when he realises that he needs to switch OFF the veritable Christmas tree on the desk in his bedroom, because something is running overnight.... he has some options.... not to mention ripping it all out fairly easily when he gets bored of it or wants a change in style.

Oh I get the RGB appeal for sure, my son has picked his PC upgrade for Christmas entirely on looks after I shortlisted decent options for him

I convinced him to stick with air (Arctic Freezer 34 e sports duo which still looks decent enough with good performance, and a good price) so that the budget could go towards more important things like GPU.

Good effort on the shortlist, sounds like you've got a reasonable compromise there.... it's a shame as that 212 would have been plenty, but at least you're not throwing money away on a completely unnecessary AIO that would have just been avoidable maintenance in 18 months...

Let him save the watercooling dreams until he's actually overclocking the nuts off something and needs a full custom hardline... which is where watercooling actually becomes worthwhile.... but that said, overclocking these days just doesn't seem as rewarding and nowhere near as exciting now that there's all sorts of throttling and protections in place, so the chance of actual explosions is pretty much gone :D:D:D

Think you mixed me up with the OP lol!
But yea I think he somewhat trusts his ol' dad as I work in IT so he would believe anything I told him about that particular thing.

Ha ha... you're right, I did! Sound approach though.

I wonder if some silly RGB fans clipped onto the Hyper212 cooler would keep his son happy?
