Gaming the 12700k is only 3% slower then the 12900k and ddr5 is very simmlar so it's not worth the extra cost.

You mite need to order a skt 1700 bracket for the cooler most don't come with one.

More little cores do very little for gaming.
When ever/if games can finally really use big.little design time has anyway run over Alder Lake.

Also for its off the charts bat crazy price DDR5 doesn't bring anything to table for gaming.
Video editing and other such huge amounts of data handling and all cores 100% stressing work loads would be different.
But in the end small datasets processing games simply don't have much any use for more bandwidth.

Neither does super expensive motherboard give any improvement in performance/longevity, or gaming experience.
Instead if wanting high end gaming PC you should be going for like 4K monitor, because that's the thing you're looking at when gaming.
Also other part of gaming immersion, audio, should be at good level.

There's little sense in filling limited M.2 slots with small drives.
If you're worried about needing clean Windows install partitioning is for that.
And anyway Windows doesn't need any expensive drive.
Once boot process is over drive accesses done by Windows don't cause any load in SSD scale.
Heck, even in HDD era running Windows from same physical drive as games wasn't any issue for as long as you had enough memory to avoid paging.
Need to extend memory through use of page/"swap" file is the only way how Windows itself can generate lots of drive traffic.

Arctic Freezer II is better cooler with thicker than usual radiator for actually lots of surface area for dissipating heat into air...
And actual warranty instead of "rear lights of salesman's car disappearing behind bend in road" two years.
Arctic Liquid Freezer II A-RGB High Performance CPU Water Cooler - 360mm (SKU: HS-07R-AR) = £109.99

cheers all, i will be gaming in 4k with either the ASUS ROG STRIX or the gigabyte aorus and I'm also torn between the 3080ti and 3090 ? with regards to this build, money is not a problem as long as it last 7 years like my last build which has now been passed on to my daughter i have a budget of 7k including all new peripherals, with regards to the ddr5 it seems the price has come down form a couple of weeks ago and when ddr5 does kick in maybe a year or so ? i may as well go that route right ? i cant see the point upgrading the board and ram in a year or 2

thanks for your help and good shout on the 1700 adapter i will also go for the i7 then

if u want 3080ti or 3090, u have to change psu and go for 1000w. i have wd sn850 but with heatsink. my advice, get with heatsink. read online temp for wd sn850 with/without heatsink. if money is not a problem why kf instead of k. u might need integrated gpu, u never know. and last, case?

I would Up your psu to a 1000w the 3090 can have power spikes of nearly 500w.

cheers guys i have only ever built one pc so i really haven't got a clue I'm only specking the above through reading on here and youtube vids and what i think would be good for gaming i will change it out for a 1000 psu, cheers micky i believe you helped me out on my first pc

Your welcome.
That case the 360mm rad has to go in the front so make sure you get the mesh version especially with a 3080ti/3090.

as long as it last 7 years
At that size level I would be definitely getting OLED.
Per pixel illumination gives far more contrasty and punchy image than liquid crap, whose response times are also "challenged".
Unless you have bright room illumination or sun shining from window needing use of high brightness setting wear shouldn't be slightest issue.
(/you can afford new one when that would become issue)

It won't stay at high level for that long no matter how much you pour money down the drain.
Competition and real advance is now back in CPUs.
And with parallel processing workload GPUs are even easier to scale and only lack of competition and now manufacturing capacity have kept performance advance per cost down.

LG announced 42" size panel at CES and besides LG's existing 48" models also Gigabyte has 48" OLED under its gaming brand.
If you have room for fitting 43" panel without problems 48" isn't anymore that much bigger.

i will have a look at the gigabyte

cheers all, i put the order in today along with the gigabyte 43inch, even tho i have a good budget i decided to got with a 500gb m.2 and a 4tb Samsung ssd for my games and as i used a hdd in my old pc im sure i will see the difference in writing speed, now just got to keep an eye on the graphics cards

When directstorage gets implemented, youll need a pciegen3 nvme or above for it to work in gaming. Standard ssd wont work. Also if you went for the SN850, remember write speed on a 500gb model is muwer thasn the 1gb model and durability halved.. at £89, something like the 1TB Crucial P5P at £112 would be faster and more durable, with twice the storage

Morning,

if buying from OCuk, these are the nvme's I'd consider

I'd be tempted to wait to see offers come in as you already have storage and no direct storage not running yet so a bit of time on your hands, though as said below, I'd be tempted to send your 4tb ssd back if you paid £340 for it(see below)

seperately, I've go a RM1000X psu in my system. Is a great psu with excellent reviews, 10 yrs warranty etc (£159.95 on OCuk) https://www.tomshardware.com/uk/reviews/corsair-rm1000x-2021-power-supply-review
My basket at OcUK:

Total: £170.45 (includes delivery: £10.50)

Gen4
The 2tb SN850 is what I have in my build at the mo, but recently it was down at £239.99 on offer, so wouldn't pay £299
The crucial P5P is a good entry level gen4 which is almost as fast at the 2tb level...comes with a £20 gamesplanet voucher
The SN770 is new and not released yet, but £249.95 looks solid for when they go on sale later, so expect that to go below £200 odd, and then it'll be a good buy...at mo the P5P is faster
Gen3
The SN750 is solid gen 3, but personally at mo would pay for the P5P or SN770 if I had the cash to get a gen 4 as only a little more
The SN550 or P2 are your budget nvme's, but still much faster than a ssd...2 x 2tb P2's is the same price as the 4tb Samsung Q870 ssd, and you get 2 x £20 voucher also, so making it cheaper. I'd be tempted to send your SSD back

The MSI Carbon has 4 nvme slots..3 x gen4, 1 x gen3(fairly surprised not all gen4 at that price point)...not sure if you still went with that mobo, or went with a DDR4 Z690(as mulitple yt vids show there is no real gain in DDR5 for gaming, and you could save over £200 on some 32gb corsair 3600C16/18 vengeance (RGB) ram, and get a decent mobo such as the MSI edge/tomahawk Asus Tuf gaming wifi d4, that's more than capable for a 12700k(12900 for that matter) as save another £100+ there...I would say the MSI Z690 edge will give you the same look as the carbon, but all 4 nvme are gen4 slots(tomahawk 3 x gen4, 1 x gen3)(put those boards below the nvme)..I know the tuf gaming board is on a bundle deal with a 12700k for £599.99 at mo, saving £55 odd, but away from OCuk)
