So after viewing a bit of a shed of an mx5, these have peaked my interest. I owned a clio sport some years ago and I always miss it.

Seem to hit a very nice mpg/fun ratio. Anything to look out for when viewing the mk7s, probably a 13-15 plate.

Those early ones have rock hard suspension. But apart from that I don't think they changed much.

Make sure the recall has been done for the cooling issue if it needed it. A lot of Fords from around that time had the problem.

Also be aware they they are VERY stealable and you need a OBD port relocation at bare minimum preferably a ghost or Viper fitting. In some areas you will find one pretty much uninsurable due to the levels of theft lol

Just checked insurance! Damn, that's not great - might need to shop about for insurance.

Shall have a look at OBD relocation, luckily I live in a secluded place with very little crime but my postcode probably wrecks me.

There is so many sheds/cat s and ns! I suppose they made loads.

Any reason to avoid a modded one? Most seem to have some form of s/s exhaust and a remap.

They're a Fiesta, so you can pretty much picture who's hands the majority of them fell into. I wouldn't be specifically put off by aftermarket exhaust or a remap, but I'd check fittings, bolts, and drill holes for evidence as to how much they've been previously fettled with as a lot would have hurriedly been put back to standard because the owner's finance deal on them came to an end.

Don't monotune cover warranty? Can't say the insurance on my Mrs mk 8 St, was any different to her focus St. Was only something like 250 for the year.

Monotune is covered by warranty, but most sts of that era have a map from other places.

Most monotunes are either expensive or been ruined by some tat/no mot sadly.

Just while discussing St's, my wife's has got a check engine light on it (again). Car still drives fine, and mpgs are the same. Anyone want to attempt to crystal ball it? I'm thinking a dodgy sensor, as the light went out for about a week and a half.

That's what I'm hoping, but he scanned it last time and nothing came up. Very strange.
Was it a Ford dealer, or local garage? Some codes will not show on a generic OBD reader. You need Forscan, IDS or something else that can pickup all of the Ford codes.

The Ford systems are usually very good at logging things, even without triggering a light. I've plugged in a 6 month old car that's never shown an error or light on the dash and there were minor communication error reports between modules in Forscan. Probably just where they'd not booted in time or something, but it shows that even the slightest thing gets logged, I've never known a dash light not to log a fault.

It is an independent but he's a Ford specialist so I'd have thought he'd have the kit.

I decided against a Mk7 purely because they have either been chav’d up or are driven by chavs. I didn’t want the association plus the interior is poor.

Yeah, this might be too true. Went to see one yesterday, absolutely awful. Photos looked great, bumpers, wheels, interior all in a bad state. Then it had been decatted (not on advert) and cables hanging about the engine bay....

Will maybe check one or two more....

Good cars and not everyone will have a 3” exhaust and a windscreen sun strip but quite a lot will.
