Has anyone else noticed the huge increase in pet food prices?

The brand I normally buy (just a popular pouch food) has had the meat in it reduced by 10%, the pouch size reduced by 15% and the price has gone up 37% and the signs are it is still increasing and will reach 50% in the very near future.

I am now spending around £70 a month on cat food for three cats and that's heading towards £90. God help dog owners. I can't help but think this will mean a lot of animals going hungry.

I would suggest looking at a different brand then. I find Aldi cat food very good. They do wet pouches, dry food and treats under the vitacat brand. The wet food is 3.09 for 12 100g pouches. I don't know how that compares to what you are using ta the moment?
 
Yeah i noticed the pouches we get our cat went from £10 a year or so ago for the big box of 40 up to £13.70 in the last shop, is yours Wiskas as well as i think that's the same inflation number for both of us?

Terrible food and terrible ingredients. Not unlike most cheap dog or cat foods to be fair, but still. Horrible stuff.
 
Im only recently a new dog dad so not really had my eye to the price of food massively but it doesn't surprise me really what with the price of everything going up recently.

Ours is on Orijen Puppy at the moment with some Natures Harvest wet food mixed in. Both arent really cheap but are pretty well reviewed from an ingredients and quality perspective.

We get our dog food from butternut box, that's gone up in price, although pouch size has remained the same. They use all fresh meat and veg ingredients, so not really surprising that costs have gone up.

Thankfully we've only got a little dog, I reckon his monthly food bill is about £50-60. Someone with a big dog like a German Shepherd on a similar diet probably eats four times that amount, so I'd shudder at their food costs.

Yes, it is Whiskas. There are signs of it going up to over £15 a pack of 40. I've already seen some pet shops selling it at £15.80.
 
Our dogs ate Wagg's for a good few years - it was well reviewed when we first got them. But a couple of years ago, having not looked since, I found out that was no longer the case. Did some research, and found Kirklands (Costco's own brand). Well reviewed, and costs less than £20 for a sack that must last our 2 Jack Russell's at least a couple of months if not more. I've not ever actually bothered to count how long, because the cost is so low anyway.

Yeah, my box of 12 pouches has gone up from about £3.50 and a lot of time on offer 2 for £6, to £4, £4.25, £4.50 and this last week or so, up to £5.

The alternative, more expensive brand that's been £4 for ages and was also often on offer 2 for £6 is now £6 and is currently on offer for £4.75 for 1.

I've tried them on the cheap stuff, but they won't really eat it for more than a box or so. After that they just go outside, eat the wildlife and bring more of it indoors because obviously if that's all that's on offer, then I must need help with the menu. I spent last night trying to sleep though one of my cats chasing a mouse around under my bed that she's clearly brought for me, otherwise she would have just eaten it. Then spent a lot of this morning trying (and failing) to nurse the mouse back to a state where I could release it again :(

Trying times. Best part of a fiver a day to feed two cats.

Nope, but we buy locally made food for our dog and the cat only really likes kibble so the prices have been the same for a while.

I don't spend anything like that to feed ten dogs, eight of which weigh between eighty and one hundred and thirty pounds. I buy bulk quantities of dry feed from agricultural merchants and offal and chicken carcasses weekly from the butcher.

Surely feeding domestic felines need not be anything like what you are paying with some thought? I am sure catteries aren't paying such ridiculous prices or they'd be going bust.
 
Koda gets burns. Meant to be quite good. Get 2*12kg bags a time. Seems to last well

The 24kg costs 76gbp

Our cat is extremely fussy with her food, so if something has a high meat content and low derivatives, it's meaningless and extremely expensive if she doesn't want to eat it.

It's a question of getting them to eat. Cats are really picky. As yet I haven't found anything with the variety of Whiskas that they will eat.
