Audi repair - main dealer or third party?

So the car is still in factory warranty and has various things fitted to the mirror such as the camera system etc.

Why is there even an argument about this - you'd surely do it properly with genuine parts on a car this new and the Audi quote doesn't sound particularly expensive.

Because the insurance don't want to pay to go down that route by the sounds of it.

Do they not have an option to pay a higher excess and use a repairer of your choice?

If not seems like cancelling the claim and paying for the repair yourself is probably a better option in this situation

Yes that's what I've done now. Weighing up the excess and waiting until July for the repair with non-Audi parts, plus the inevitable increase in premium when I renew is not that far short of the £1,300 Oxford Audi want to repair it.

I spoke to the Aftersales Manager there this morning and he's going to try and do something on the price for me.

Like fox said aren't you obliged to use parts audi would accept to maintain the warranty, and insurance company must be obliged to do that (doubly so if car were on PCP)

real part 2nd hand on ebay looks like £3-400 -but, if there are cameras in it, maybe even diy is out as could be some recoding ?

You'll almost certainly still end up with this now that they're aware of it unfortunately.
I shop around every year so will just answer the "have you made any claims" question as 'No'.

Yeah as per the original post, the insurer said they'd be using 'manufacturer approved' parts so would be acceptable - my question was around whether there's much of a difference.

Either way, I'm dropping it off to Audi tomorrow morning for them to sort so all good (well, I'm down around £1,300 which I wasn't planning on spending on a new wing mirror but only got myself to blame for that I guess...)

Personally, I'd have gone for a second hand part and installed it myself. Any coding can be done by Audi or by a 3rd party eaasy enough

"It wasn't an accident, I deliberately smashed my own wing mirror off"

I wonder how that'd affect your next quote :p
