Summer Transfer Window 23/24

I see Klopps £100m player "I'm not in football anymore" quote has resurfaced on social media today :p
He was asked about that quote in this mornings press conference, he said that was how he thought back then and is fine with admitting that he was wrong. He said is he happy about spending 100m+ on a player, no, not at all but that is the way football has gone and if you want to compete thats what you have to do. Which is fair enough really I guess.

Hopefully he will stop being a cry baby then

Shocking, somebody admitting that they now believe they were wrong and have since changed their mind.

Where will this honesty end? Madness!

Brighton have to be the best selling club in the world.
Over two seasons they've rinsed a fortune
Ben White £50m
Dan Burn £13m
Cucarella £60m
Bissouma £25m
Trossard £22m
MacAllister £35m
Caicedo £110m - who they paid £5m for two seasons ago!

Total c£315m

Arent they something like 500m in debt too? I've no idea how thats happened when you look at how much they've brought in via sales

Caicedo fee is a bit desperate which ever way you spin it. He has ended up being more expensive than Bellingham who was your number one target. You have essentially done a Man Utd desperation buy but with an actual good player.

Regardless which ever way you want to spin it. Liverpool were in a big way risking being left behind City and Arsenal this season with what they have. Caicedo will change that for them big time.

Kane going Spurs really risk getting left behind and struggling for top half of the table imo. The money they have got for him is essentially wiped out by missing champions league money so they have given him away for free really.

City, United, Arsenal, Liverpool, Chelsea, Brighton, Villa, Liverpool, Newcastle will all finish above them.

It is actually a bit worrying for them because I am sure all the debt they have is based on European qualification and their owner is in a bit of a mess at the moment as well. Could we even see a Leeds style situation? Leicester City have been Spurs level over the past few seasons and they managed to get relegated.

so you think clubs paying £100m+ is a good thing?

Nope, especially on unproven players such as caicedo. It's only going to add fuel to the fire
Hopefully people on social media will stop being keyboard warriors saying things that they wouldnt dare say to peoples faces and hiding behind their social media pages. But then we all hope for something in life :)

I'd happily call klopp a cry baby to his face. I'm sure he's had worse, not everyone is a snow flake (edit seems even ocuk doesn't like the word snow flake)

Why? Where do you think the massive money in football would go if not in transfer fees and wages. Any league that didn't have a cap would just dominate.
It would have to be in every league.

I’d certainly think it would give chances for smaller clubs to actually achieve more success and climb leagues or break into the top 6 in ours if playing field was more level.

I mean your not gonna get a Bradford city spending money to levels league clubs can etc even if they got mega rich owners ffp wouldn’t allow it for one.

It would need far more serious thinking and a far smarter person than myself but I’m confident that I feel it would benefit football as a whole long term.

Doesn’t matter any way it won’t happen

You maybe would but the vast majority of those people on social media , if they ever met Klopp in RL, would be brown nosing him like mad and asking for a selfie with him to put on their social media. Hypocrites.

Caicedo having 'second thoughts' over Liverpool move

Sky Sports News has been told Moises Caicedo is having second thoughts about a move to Liverpool.
The player and his representatives remain in London.
There is no official word yet if Chelsea have returned with an improved offer for the Brighton midfielder.

That fee brings a huge amount of pressure or it could just be Todd about to drop 120 to break his own record from the last window.

Genuinely not sure I agree with this (and I've had issues with us paying big for players in the past).

If Brighton had said in June that we could have had Caicedo for £60-70m we'd have snapped their hand off. Instead, they asked for more, and we said no. We've now basically received the difference between £60m and what we've actually paid from the sales of Fabinho and Hendo. It's a pretty reasonable net spend for someone of his quality to replace two ageing players. It's even more reasonable when you consider that we got Macallister for £30m.

There's always a huge risk with spending big on a player and on and individual basis I agree that Caicedo is therefore "risky", but as part of this summer's business as a whole we've basically moved from having a pretty cheap summer (given the size of rebuild needed) to having an on expectation summer with some high quality recruitment.

As I said above, I never felt that Jude was what we needed (and I think if you search through my old comments you'll see that, even before we missed out on him). We have a lot of players who can play Jude's role (obviously not to the same quality, but well enough) and have added to that through Macallister for a third of the price. What we did not have was a good 6, and good 6s are incredibly scarce.

The player I do think we missed out on for that role was Tchouameni, and if we'd spent money last year we'd have had a chance. But live and learn. As things stood this summer, spending big on Caicedo was the right move. There's obviously always a risk that a transfer won't come off, but knowing what we know at present I'm happy with it.
