NVIDIA RTX 50 SERIES - Technical/General Discussion

I have seen a lot of RTX 50 series black screen issues reported. Anyone having issues?

So far I've had none. My specs as per my signature, single TV over HDMI, I haven't changed the PCIE mode in the BIOS, and I've updated the drivers whenever new ones have become available.

I think it's mostly bad luck, whatever NVIDIA did recently driver wise may or may not affect your setup, and the newer drivers may or may not fix the problem.

Does antibody use a lot and recommend using the Nvidia app? I generally use just the driver and haven't used the app and just wanted to see if it's required or adds anything other than just changing the game setting in the game instead
Unfortunately you need to use both the app and the control panel to get the most out of your card as neither can do everything on their own.

As a follow up to this Undervolting guide I made yesterday, could anyone with a Aorus Master/Suprim/Astral or AIO 5090 model see how far they can push clocks at 0.890? I'd also be curious about the Steel Nomad score.

I want to figure out how much further than a FE some models can get at that specific voltage (which keeps the card under 450w).

Thanks!

I think it mainly affects Displayport. I had to connect mine with HDMI temporarily to get into Windows and install the new driver

Does anyone have any experience of GPU’s not respecting fan curves?

I’ve had the 5070ti Zotac infinity a week and yesterday it decided it wasn’t going to follow my fan curve whilst gaming anymore.

I did originally have MSI afterburner, the Nvidia app and OpenRGB with its fan plugin playing all nicely together.. at first I thought that truce had ended but through my debugging efforts, I’ve striped all that software out, DDU’s the PC and the problem persists.

I’m seeing the fans that shouldn’t kick on til 50+ turn on their 30% minimum as low as 32degrees.

Assuming you're on Windows
Can you boot into safe mode and check ?

If the fans are still running, shutdown, switch vBios and retest

If not, you probably have a service running that is modifying the fan speed

Really impressed with the 5090FE. Noise levels are really great. I'm sure it's a little louder than my 4090 Strix in DB terms, but the pitch/frequency really makes it easy on the ears.

I've had a few long gaming sessions and no complains at all noise wise. This is all at stock, 100% power limit, so worse case scenario. To anyone considering the MSRP 5090FE who hates noise, it really is as good as some of the reviewers were claiming.

I'm using it in a O11D Evo XL, which is a huge case, with 10x120mm fans @ 800RPM during gaming.

Performance is of course amazing :)

That's good to hear. I'm getting a 5090 FE too in a couple of days. I was a little worried about the noise but at least it seems like the noise is manageable with enough airflow.

I actually was thinking of getting this case for my new 9950X3D build along with the 5090 FE,

Do you think it'd work alright?

Good to hear. How are your temps? Memory temps seem to be pretty concerning from the reviews I saw. Very easy to hit 90+c on the memory if running at max power.

The Palit Gamerock 5090 seems decent so far. I've been thrashing it as hard as I can all day, while obsessively touch-testing the temperature of the cable and sniffing around the GPU and PSU connector sockets for any whiffs of burning plastic. So far, so good.

Temperatures are about what I'd expect. If I absolutely thrash it, the main temperature hits 73 and the hotspot hits 83. Idle temperatures are a little higher than I'd like, but I expect I'll be able to sort that out by playing with fan curves.

Noise is ok. There's a touch of coil whine, mostly on loading/menu screens. The Doom Eternal loading screen is the worst for this. During actual gameplay, no coil whine at all is audible over the fans and the fans aren't all that loud (and the pitch isn't too high either).

The card's an absolute brick. I was replacing a Gamerock 4090 and the dimensions are pretty similar, which at least made swapping the cards easy. The RGB is pretty enough, but my horizontal configuration doesn't really show it off much.

My one real complaint is that the supplied support-arm is flimsy as hell. Fortunately, I had a better one at hand that I could use.

In terms of performance, I'm seeing a 20-25% improvement in most games and benchmarks vs the 4090. Doom Eternal is a bit of an outlier, with a 30% improvement - I'm guessing that's the usual "idTech is weird and impressive" thing. Weirdly, plain old TimeSpy (the non-extreme version) seems bugged, with GPU utilisation only going to 60% or so and the CPU (7950X3D) also only lightly loaded during the graphics tests. Reddit suggests a few other people are having the same issue with the 5000-series cards. Other benchmarks work fine. Monster Hunter Wilds and Star Wars Outlaws both "feel" significantly better vs the 4090, with fewer drops (not using MFG).

Thanks for the comprehensive update. I am glad the card is performing well. I just wish Palit used larger fans that used up the whole height/width of the card. There is so much unused space, which almost all other AIB cards use to achieve lower temperatures.

Do you plan on trying to undervolt it? Seems to be a bit of a no brainer based on what i've read so far. Even a conversative undervolt can reduce power consumption and temps by a good whack.

Yep, looking at undervolts is on the agenda for tomorrow.
