Tron : Ares (2025)

Might be like Tron Legacy, with the soundtrack being the key to my overall enjoyment with the mass overdose of CGI.

I'd actually consider that a win personally, while I'd rather the acting/story be better it wasn't a deal breaker in Legacy due to the music/visuals.

Mentioned this earlier but Legacy was a bit like a Daft Punk concert with a prolonged music video, and I'm absolutely down for more of the same.

Love the aesthetics of Tron and looking forward to this even if it might not the strongest story, you just know your in for a top visual cinematic experience

Me too. I've been a fan ever since I saw Tron at the Cinema in 1982. I was utterly blown away.

I have some Light Cycle models from both Tron and Tron Legacy on my shelf, and still have some of the Tron Legacy toys (including an identity disk) from that release. When Legacy released they did an ARG and I still have the Encom Pass lanyard and a Space Paranoids badge that were awards for it. I also have a huge 'Space Paranoids' poster on my wall. So you could say I'm a fan...

Yeah NIN and a bit of that old/new Tron aesthetic, Im more than happy to pay cinema prices for this one. If its crap its crap.
Hopefully the Soundtrack is solid.

so "Ares" Tron world is going to war with "earth" world ? :P Ares being Letto? The head of the "Tronjan" army ..... See what i did there?
Whatever it'll be style over substance im sure, but wasn't Legacy ? Its fine.

Libations for everyone!

How is it we are told the Disney films / Star Wars are “not for” us anymore but the same isn’t said about tron? I’m all over this btw (age 40)

It depends on how you're phrasing this question, who exactly do you assume is saying this?

Tron is an old franchise in which the first movie mostly resonated with younger guys, the last movie was a Daft Punk music video that would have mostly resonated with people around our age when it launched. Ares is surely by that metric the same, NIN are doing the soundtrack, while I rate them as fantastic I doubt many current teens or 20 somethings are overly aware of them.

This comes across as a movie with older and more passionate roots at first (admittedly superficial) glance imo.

Speaking as a fellow 40 year old.

Really enjoyed Tron Legacy and the soundtrack is pretty epic so hopefully this will be good too.
Same, I think its a great movie. The visuals are spectacular (OK The de-aging of Jeff Bridges is Janky) but the rest is brilliant. I cant wait for them to release it on 4K BR and have it blasting on my headphones on the OLED. I am definitely optimistic for Ares... I hope we get a good performance out of Jared Leto as well. I am hoping there is also some sort of link to Legacy.

The trailer looks great.. That bit with the lightcycles looks very Matrix inspired.

I kind of dislike the aesthetics and concept of the Tron world being mixed with the real world. It looks a bit odd and overly CGI'd to see light cycles cruising the streets of a city....

Not sure about it from the trailer but I'll give it a watch as I loved the first two movies.

There was actually a fan made AI upscale and enhanced release of the 1080p Bluray of Legacy that came out last year, there isn't as of yet an official 4K release.

I'm giving it a watch now and it's the quality is legitimately surprising, there's three separate English audio tracks too of varying quality and surround support so really quite impressive overall.

(I do actually own the bluray of the movie for anyone wondering).

It's a hefty 42gb download however, just to forewarn.

There is an "official" 4K release expected this year which adds HDR etc, if done well it would make for an incredible experience.
