Summer Transfer Window 25/26 *Sponsored by Bigpig*

Well they didn't because apparently they wanted 77m. Sounds like they were jerking around moving the target around.
What they asked for and what they were going to sell for are not likely to have been the same figure but who knows. It's besides the point though. They have no obligation to play nice with Utd. It's their job to get the best possible deal for themselves and if that means playing Utd off against other clubs or whatever else then so be it.

Depends really. Brentford are following a business model of buying low and selling on. Players might be more wary of joining or demand a release clause if they're going to be difficult when a bigger team comes calling. This is a hurdle all clubs with that model face.

I'm not sure it'll make much of an impact. I've never been too convinced by this idea that players join x because they have a history of selling to bigger clubs - it might be a bonus but I suspect the primary factor is Brentford (or whoever) are simply the best option for them at that time. And after all, the deal still went through - I doubt some 21 year old in France is going to be too concerned by the fact Utd had to pay a bit more if and when he signs for Brentford.

We don't do release clauses. The club's policy is "why limit your upside?". You don't buy a house with a ceiling sales price - we got burnt on having to sell Konsa to Villa, and decided never again. We take a buy early/sell late approach to each transfer window... where able. Toney's replacement was bought seven months before we sold him!

Players aren't going to not join us if we sell to Man United for £71m... quite the opposite I'd imagine. In the past 12 months, two of our sales have resulted in i) the sixth highest transfer fee paid for a forward in Premier League history (soon to be seventh I imagine if Ekitike moves) and ii) the largest net wage for an English football player (potentially British sportsman, not knowing what F1 pays). That's enough to draw any ambitious footballer to Brentford.

Everything that has been in the press surrounding this transfer has come from the Man United end. We do our transfer business quietly and transparently, and Arsenal, Villa, West Ham and others have commented on this regarding past transfers.

That said, I would be most pleased if we had raised our asking price. If you want to buy early in the window, you typically have to pay a premium - the same applies to buying a house, if you want it off the market before others can bid. If you then bid way below that asking price and keep on messing around with low bids, then expecting the price to remain the same if the overall market starts rising is a tad daft. A bit like if I was trying to buy that house and lowballed an early bid, if houses in the same street started to rise in value, I should expect the asking price on my target to rise as well.

So clubs at the top of the commercial ladder will stay there and it becomes almost impossible to catch.
The reason PSR was invented in a nut shell. It's a closed shop where the bigger teams get to cherry pick from the clubs below them like they always have.

Seems like man utd tried for ekitike last week but were told to do one by the player. Gyokeres and Ekitike both telling them 'nah' is quite amusing :)

You can't blame a player for declining them when they know clubs in European tournaments are sniffing around them. The best players want to be on the biggest stages, not for the most important match of the season to be a local derby.

I'm not sure I really believe we genuinely tried to sign either of them when both were in advanced negotiations with Arsenal and Liverpool respectively. I know Ornstein mentioned it but there's no real detail.

Unless we manage to actually sell the likes of Garnacho, I don't think much will happen until later in the window now.

I see Alex Crook is reporting that Isak wants £300k a week and his agent is justifying that by saying that's what players worth £150m are paid.

It's a tangled web Newcastle have weaved for themselves.

Wage structure buster.

His reported (made up) salary might make it seem like an extreme uplift, but surely he'll be earning more than £120k a week?

Didnt someone earlier in the thread say that nobody at Newcastle was on more than 160k a week, if thats the case then 300k would be almost doubling his wages.

See if there's any truth to it, pinch of salt on that when it comes from talk sport. Not very reputable is it.

However, IF it does come that that's what he is demanding on a new contract. It puts us in a very hard spot. I think it would be a clear sign that he will want to move on. Whichever way, we're going to be out in some very hard spots over the next 12 months.
