No normally aspirated engines then

The idea of ditching the new engine designs for 2029 was always ridiculous. All that time developing a new engine and then run it for just three seasons? Nah. Naturally aspirated is also just not that relevant to anything anymore. It's a choice to run outdated technology for the nostalgia -- not the way F1 should be going.

Why am I not surprised....
I’m fully unsurprised. The manufacturers have zero interest in NA engines and F1, even with the cost cap is still a very expensive undertaking, especially for an engine manufacturer. Given the fixed costs set by the regulations for engine supply it’s still reckoned that the likes of Mercedes are still spending around £100m a season on powertrain development and manufacturing over and above the income from McLaren, Williams and Aston Martin. And AM are being replaced by Alpine next season. Long gone are the times that F1 could be pushed under the marketing and advertising budget of a car company. They expect some R&D too, or at least everyone other than Ferrari anyway. They just wouldn’t get that from NA engines, synthetic fuels or not.

The plans were literally a return to the V8s of 2009-2013 aswell. Normally-aspirated, less electrical component than the 2026 regs (10% vs 50%) and just three years after the 2026 engines.

Totally unsurprised the manufacturers weren't interested.

Quite hard to give an assessment of Danny Rics career really, at the point it felt like he should have kicked on, become a team leader and World title contender it all went wrong and fizzled out!

8 wins and 32 podiums in isolation is an excellent career for the vast majority of F1 drivers but somehow feels a bit like he didn't fulfil his potential.

Left Red Bull who, he felt, didn't really want him to succeed, joined Renault's 'new dawn', which was anything but and then a really difficult to drive McLaren. I don't think he recovered after that.

I know, objectively, this is a bad thing of which I should not approve but, subjectively, the guy gives me joy and I am sad to see him face the justice he has earned.
They've been trying to catch him for a while now as I've followed this throughout.
Yes that would have been a sight on the road, even if it's not a proper f1 car, but laws are laws...

Bit of a doodle I've knocked up in my spare time...

Thanks.

1. Very detailed 3D model from scratch.
2. Many renders in various states of undress.
3. Much photoshop to paint the transparency between layers.

Still keep going back to step 1 when I notice things missing or wrong.

Above is only 1/4 res, here's some 100% crops. Full size will be good enough for an A1 print.

I recognise your name, Modo user right? (or former Modo user at this point :()

Your models are incredible I assume it's not all SubD down in the minor details but I still can't imagine the hours you've spent on it. Like the milled sections of the brake monoblocks, is that a smooth shader or SubD?

I've dabbed in 3D for years, and with Modo, but never finished any sort of project sadly. I get too hung up on accuracy rather than just finishing something and being happy with it. Then I see the likes of your work and get back into it, so thanks for the inspiration!
