I recognise your name, Modo user right? (or former Modo user at this point :()

Your models are incredible I assume it's not all SubD down in the minor details but I still can't imagine the hours you've spent on it. Like the milled sections of the brake monoblocks, is that a smooth shader or SubD?

I've dabbed in 3D for years, and with Modo, but never finished any sort of project sadly. I get too hung up on accuracy rather than just finishing something and being happy with it. Then I see the likes of your work and get back into it, so thanks for the inspiration!

Ha, didn't expect to be recognised! Here's a screengrab for you. Just noticed the end of the steering arm doesn't meet the upright properly, that's a rigging rather than modelling error.

I tend to do a first pass of most things as regular polys and then make them subd when either necessary or I can be bothered. A lot of relatively basic modelling holds up fine in a render, and ultimately if it looks right it is right.

As for Modo, it might be EOL but I can't face the pain of learning Blender until I'm absolutely forced to.

You must have the patience of a saint with such amazing details.

Some combination of patience and chronic OCD.

WOW! I modelled an E-type with a full interior and swore off doing that level of detail again. I can't imagine the work and time to accurately model everything else too as there's so much detail on the engine and suspension. Hell, the time it probably took to get enough reference photos of every part of the car is going to be staggering. The material / texture work is fantastic too!

That is genuinely very helpful. Thank you!

I liken learning Blender to trying to fly a Klingon Warbird. Modelling in Modo is just intuitive so I'm sure it'll last me a long while in it's current formnfor that at least.

I bought some of the Ritter Goods FW14B prints. Similar detail but in the tooned style. Hopefully theme my office to them when I get around to working on it.

The Internet appears to be going crazy about Max Verstappen doing his qualifying laps this weekend at the Nurburgring so he can take part in the VLN race in a couple of weeks time. Takes range from 'why does he have to do this, he's Max Verstappen!' to 'he's been handicapped on purpose in a lower powered, heavier car so he doesn't win the race!' when, as a rookie, the rules state he must drive a lower powered car in a lower class.

F1 fans who have no idea how a super license works, nor how other motor racing formula's and their licenses work, I suspect.
Quite, he's not been slowed down, it is in the rules that anyone without a permit A will have their car restricted. Thus he has a permit B car.
I don't know who these 'everyone on the internet' are either, however many versus those who aren't interested?

There was a concern that he wouldn't be able to take part as he didn't complete the full allotment of laps due to the second car having technical issues all weekend but he was granted his Permit A by committee decision late on Sunday. He's now free to race a GT3 car in the next VLN race on 26th & 27th September in between Azerbaijan and Singapore GP's. The suggestion is then that he will take part in the N24 next year, dated for May 14th to 17th, between the US and Canada rounds. Which, for some reason, aren't back to back. So most teams will fly all staff and cars back to their bases only to fly back again 10 days later.

That's absolutely nuts in this day and age when they are supposed to be climate friendly, Canada and Miami GPs are three weeks apart in May!

Full '26 calendar...

But the engines sound like hairdryers so we're saving at least 2 hedgehogs there.
