Greenlizard0 Premier League Football Thread ** spoilers ** [27th - 29th September 2025]

Well, cant say Palace didnt deserve it. They are the only unbeaten team left in the league and they are going to be a VERY tough match for anyone in the league.

For Liverpool, this result will not in itself be the problem, its why we are now 6 matches in and havent played well in any of the games, thats going to be the real question that needs answering. Whole gameplay has been poor in every match, too slow, too pondering, too many passes that havent reached their targets, too many shots going wildly off target. The whys of that will be the questions that need answering in a much wider aspect than just this result.

Fair play to Palace, they're doing incredible things - even without Eze. Glasner is doing amazingly well, fair play to him. Do you think we could have another 2016 on our hands?

They'll probably go deep in most competitions and have Euorpe with a pretty small squad. They'll need a lot of luck with injuries to sustain it imo.

Crystal Palace 2nd and Bournemouth 3rd.

I'd certainly not have predicted the table would look like that at the start of the season :)

And by the end of the evening it could be Crystal Palace 2nd, Bournemouth 3rd and Sunderland 4th :D

Doesn't help we're playing 8 or 9 men as Konate and Salah (and macca) are in horrible form

Played ok in the 2nd half but we deserved to lose after that 1st half performance. We're 6 weeks in and the balance of the side is still completely off and I'm still struggling to see what the actual plan is in terms of fitting Wirtz and Isak into the side. If the first half set-up is anything to go by then it's going to need a hell of a lot more work because we were defensively wide open, struggled to have any controlled possession and didn't look like creating much.

He's not the only problem and probably won't get talked about nearly as much as others but Salah's a big concern for me right now. It's no secret that he was allowed to be a bit of a passenger for us out of possession last season but he has to fulfil his end of that bargain in possession and he's looked miles off it. Throw in the lack of stability behind him and we're paying double for carrying him without the ball and getting little back from him.

Hopefully Salah's getting his no show out of the way before rather than after the AFCON this year.

Wirtz is a massive problem atm for me, doesn't suit our style of play and looks really light weight. Expected far more from him expecially as we're pushing so many players up which should give him far more passing options.

Konate sadly looks finished, his head has completely gone and he's making multiple mistakes per game. Even on a yellow, he was pulling Palace players all over the place and playing with fire.

Edit: Having said the above, if I was offered 15 points from the first 6 games which included Arsenal, Everton, Palace and Bournemouth I'd have taken it. Burnley and Newcastle were the only sides I was confident of beating tbh.

Sadly there seems to be horrible form all over the pitch at the moment. Konate looks like his mind is elsewhere (I suspect we all know where) , Salah seems to be struggling to get to grips with things this season, Macca doesnt look like the Macca of recent times, Frimpong hasnt really arrived yet and doesnt look good enough currently to dislodge a much less experienced Bradley, Wirtz looks rather lost at present, Kerkez doesnt seem to have settled as yet, Gakpo seems off the boil currently. Theres big issues all over at the moment and with the games coming thick and fast its tough to see when the opportunity will arise to resolve them. I honestly cant see us beating Galatasaray away next, then its Chelsea, Utd, Frankfurt, Brentford, Villa, Real Madrid and Man City. If performances dont improve, there's a lot in that list we wont win

The new guys will obviously take time to settle, it's the huge drop off from the old heads thats more worrying for me, you would like to think there's a couple of easy fixes so to speak, just depends if Slot has the balls for it.

I said last week that Wirtz reminds me of Veron, English pace of football seems to fast for him.....I got laughed at. He might prove me wrong in the future but at them moment he looks like luxury player.

Assuming Arsenal get at least a point tomorrow, we'd have played the sides currently sitting 2nd, 3rd and 4th, as well as a derby and Newcastle's world cup final. The other day I read something about how we've not had a difficult start to the season and while we may not have played sides that typically finish in the top positions, we've faced the most in-form sides this season.

I have to agree, Konate's head appears to be in Madrid already, he's been poor so far this season. If he hasn't signed a new deal by Jan 1st then sell him. If we get £25m I'd be happy. He's a liability atm. The same with Salah. I haven't had him in my FPL team at all and he hasn't been missed. Wildly off the pace and no longer the focus of our attack. I suspect he will be off to Saudi Arabia next summer for £50m or something. Wirtz just can't handle the pace and physicality of the league either. His brain doesn't seem to work fast enough yet.

But we said the same thing under ETH "these players will look better under anyone else" but that wasn't true was it?

I don't think any of us thought that we would bring in a manager who plays a completely different style/formation and then not get him some of the players key to it.

I don't think the players we had under EtH were as bad as they looked and I don't think this lot are as bad as they look.

I don't think our football now is really any worse than under EtH either. Its just trying to smash square pegs into round holes and its really disjointed. I don't think its worse, its just less effective at getting the ball into the net. I think that any manager (EtH included) would get more from these players simply by playing a formation that didn't expose the fact we are playing with 2 CMs that don't work, WBs that aren't up to scratch and a back 5 who can't seem to work out who should be marking players because we so often have 2 more players than the opposition. Its amazing. We seem to struggle to defend when we have numbers because people assume someone else has it.

The issue Wirtz has for me, apart from the bedding in period, is that he likes to operate in the same space we've got 3 or 4 players in already. Gakpo/Isak/Ekitike/Jones/Kerkez and Macca all love that left hand channel so it's exceptionally 'congested' whenever we attack. Slot and his staff need to sort out positions and attacking movements to get the best out of the new guys,.

It might not be this season we see the best of us as an attacking side tbh.

Wirtz looks like a typical pass and move player so I'm not sure his brain is really a problem. Physically yes, he looks far too small but he can adapt to that, it's everyone else in the team and the way we play that doesn't look suited to bringing the best out of him.

More and more teams will play a low block against us and we'll just look to play it side to side, looking to move teams out of position, that isn't going to help him either. Stick him in the Liverpool of old with Mane, Firmino and Salah breaking fast on teams or Sterling, Suarez and Sturridge and he'd shine, not sure in this team.
