Reliable combi drill for occasional DIY

I'm looking for a reliable combi drill for occasional DIY (masonry, wood, metal, plastic).

Looking for a kit that contains box, drill and 1 or 2x batteries.

I'm aware the bigger the battery the heavier the drill, and have been taking a look at a lot of DeWalt Makita and also Einhell.

Budget is no more than £150, ideally a bit less.

Any recommendations/thoughts?

Cant beat this IMO for £120, and you get both drill and impact driver. You might not think you need an impact, but once you have one I think its very useful to have.

or just a tenner more for this one which has bigger batteries, but the one above is better spec units:

Use Makita stuff at work and it's been bulletproof considering the abuse it gets.
Begs the question, for occasional DIY do you really need something branded like that? Cheaper stuff is likely to perform adequately for what you need.

If it's not used often then batteries can degrade, so the more popular brands have a longer design lifetime. If the battery dies it's easier to find a replacement vs an Einhell. The battery issue would be a key concern for me.

Einhell is sort of a budget no frills but the models can change - people will just by a replacement model for example. It's a step up from Titan though (which is china in a brand)!

I have some einhell kit. Works but it's all corded or consumables (drill bits etc). I have a einhell 26kg breaker.. works. I also have erbauer too - reasonable for non-precision (drill in walls easy enough) but corded.

Remember you need to buy drill bits and screw bits etc..

For very occasional use, stick to mains powered.

Yup.. I have a battery hand drill and it's lasted but it requires a charge before I can use it but for DIY in the house.. it works. If not I can switch to SDS mains.. but that's a different beast.

On the bits etc I have a great (large) kit of erbeaur impact bits. Great quality and lasts for years.

I'd go Lidl Parkside for a starter drill, excellent value and (I think) a 3 yr warranty.

They also do SDS drills, angle grinders, jigsaws, circular saws etc, it's a good way of seeing if you really need a tool.
That's what I tell my wife, but even I couldn't justify a welder or plasma cutter :D

"Buy cheap, if you use enough to break it, replace with quality"

edit: Just seen that Einhell makes some of the Parkside tools.
