Thermalright 240MM AIO Help

same fans, PS has 7 heatpipes vs PA 6
but temp differential is minimal (1-1.5c iirc)

delay the ramp set it at 0.5-0.7s vs the 0.1s which is the normal default
Different fans mate, just looked, PA120SE has "TL-C12C" and the PS120SE has "TL-C12B V2" - as I remember seeing that mentioned in a review video that I was skeptical of when they claimed it was better, and despite the extra heatpipe I think there was 1.2C difference in the two :cry: The reviewer said something along the lines of "it's still a gain/better/cooler! so they've done it again!" :P

IIRC there wasn't a delay, it's just got PWM or DC mode and the at what temp = what % or RPM, in this case because PWM it was temp at %.

My Ryzen 7 7700
Case with five x 12cm intake fans, two x 12cm exhaust on silent profile
200 mhz overclock
Noctua D14 with the two Noctua fans on silent

15 degrees room temp

Nice, but your 7700 is a 65W non X model, the 5800X is a 105W though and older tech, so I'd expect it to be warmer? From a brief google, it's full of old threads of people saying "well AMD said 90C is fine" etc? :P
FWIW, his 5800X is around 48-52C when doing not gaming tasks like browsing/YT etc if that helps?

@hornetstinger @Gray2233 @tamzzy I did just speak to him, he said he could front mount a 360MM, (before was top mount in question) So would a Thermalright Frozen Notte 360 ARGB V2 or Frozen Warframe 360, be worth going for?
Or again is there not much in it over the Phantom Spirit 120SE?

The Frozen Notte is on offer currently, and is usually £80 and doesn't have a screen, yet the Warframe has a screen but is £20 cheaper than when the Notte isn't on offer?

How would either compare versus ponying up the extra £15 for the Arctic Liquid Freezer III Pro 360MM that he probably cant fit?

As mentioned by Tamzzy, I really don't think changing cooler is going to help in this instance. The Phantom Spirit 120SE is one of the best air coolers on the market right now, it actually cools better than a lot of the smaller AiO's and even some 360mm + units.

The problems he's having are not related to thermal dissipation, there's something else going on.

If he's disabled max core boosting he shouldn't be having the problem, the best bet is to as already stated set a more moderate fan curve.

i've got both fans. they're the same.
the only difference is the rotation of the RGB - one's clockwise and the other is counter-clockwise
Both are non RGB on the SE, and I took those model names off the product page. I did wonder if they were lying about the fans being different :P
Why do you have both fans? Is one on your AIO and one previously on the air cooler before you went AIO?

thankfully what i also have is a msi motherboard

what you want to change is the "fan step up" and "fan step down"

Ahhh, that rings a bell! TBH I didn't even think to suggest that, nice one! So get him to set them like yours shows, 0.3 and 0.7? That'll be amazing if it turns out to fix it! Thanks mate, I'll give him a text!

no idea, i think this may well be the case. the B v2 is currently on my 120mm aio, the C is stored in my box of fans :cry:
which one came with which, i know not lol

for an air cooler could set as 0.5 and 0.7, for a slower ramp up

also consider setting the base speed higher (eg I use 60% for mine), so that the change in speed/loudness is less of the overall change from base and hence, less perceptible

also the other "trick" is for the case fans to be linked to something other than the cpu temps and/or with a more muted temp/speed curve to reduce the loudness change in the pc overall

Haha, I sense a bit of hoarding going on at Casa De Tamzzy! :P

Cool, I'll past that on, thanks for this dude, that's wicked, funnier still that both me and him are dumbasses and never thought to adjust it, despite me knowing full well what it'd do as I've changed things like that in Afterburner/Rivatuner lol.

yes indeed, need to go through the boxes and start listing random parts on MM :cry:
He just text me, and said that he has 0.1, 0.2, 0.3, 0.7 for CPU step up, and 0.1, 0.2, 0.3, 0.7, 1.0 for step down?
I suggested 0.3, and 0.7? Any good?

Thanks dude. One last thing (I promise :P) does 0C = 40% 60C = 60% 70C = 80% 80C = 100% sound good to suggest?
can try, but tbh i'm reluctant to suggest any sort of curve to anyone because everyone's ears are different
he will have to try it out and then tune as he sees fit. but that's a reasonable starting point

Cheers :)

So he's just text me with the following, he tested it with Cronos The New Dawn, on the last boss - as it's the last save game after finishing it.
He gets 74-78C in cutscenes, but it tends to stay around 76-78C, and then around 76-78C then 80C max with the following:
0.7/0.7
0C =40%
60C =65%
70C = 80%
80C = 100%

So I think that is better than before, but still hot? Or is that now reasonable for a sweaty 5800X?
That game really does seem to kick it's ass, as he played MGS Delta after I'd recommended it, and it doesn't get as hot as that in MGS, so is there some kind of chance that it's the usual poor optimisation causing it in some games?
I myself remember one part of Silent Hill 2 Remake making my temps/FPS spike on one section, and as I say I also remember it happening at those 2 parts in TLOU1/2.

80c is fine for the 5800x
i would be sweating (dead tbh), but the 5800x would be fine
Nice, thanks for your help. And we've saved him from buying those placebo AIO's :cry: I would have got it in the neck otherwise :P

Yeah but you look better wet bbz ;) xoxox

Another thing he could try is add a third fan. You can get a pack of fan clips on Ebay for less than a tenner or he could bodge it with cable ties. It's easy enough to fit a extra fan to the rear tower, I did it on my PA120 and running the motherboards silent profile it kept the fans from ramping up too much. My 7800x3d is cooler running than a 5800x though.

Cheers dude! Would 3X Arctic P12 Pro's beat the stock fans in both noise and CFM? It would appear so from specs?
