Energy Prices (Strictly NO referrals!)

Free electricity coming up: 9-10pm, Fri 24th Oct
You're already in: fill your boots & unlock prizes

How odd, all that wind we've had today and it hasn't been put to good use

It looks as though Tomato Energy are barely clinging on:
Energy supplier with 12,000 customers faces collapsing into administration within days - The Sun
Been through this four times already (Symbio - Iresa - Robin Hood - Yorkshire Energy) just sit it out and see who you're transferred to then find the best deal at that time and move.

Going by that and the original 3 month warning from Ofcom they have lost 2000 customers in just over a month. Looks like I got out just in time. With a EV I can't afford to be stuck on someones SVR.

So if they do go under does the price or contract continue till taken over or it is SVR from then on ? I'm wondering how operative the prior company has to be for the new company to take over in a modern system Im hoping its all flawless of course :p

Ovo or octopus seem ok for ev

'you dont have enough money, let us take a mil or so from you just to make sure'

[seems SVR applies immediately at that time]

Anyone know if the above is the case re: Tomato?
I think you are ok in that respect afaik

Just moved from Tomato to Fuse. Seems a decent tariff and I don't have to worry about price rises now, I'm fixed for 13 months. Plus referred a friend and we both got £25 each, win win.

So are we, as bill payers, on the hook for the customer balances of Tomato if it goes under, like what happened a few years ago, or are customer balances ringfenced now?
Tomato don't hold any customers money AFAICT, there's no building up credit as you only get billed for your actual use for the previous month about 14 days later.

All that says is the customer's balance is protected. That doesn't necessarily mean that it is held somewhere. When the "big bust" happened a couple of so years ago, customer balances were protected but it was all the other customers that ended up paying for it with larger bills.

So Tomato are Whole Month Bill tariffs only (or whatever they are called)? Not fixed DD like other suppliers?

Might explain why my 12 month fixed tariff for Tomato expired 2 months ago and I’m still being charged the fixed rate tariff and haven’t moved onto the SVR.

Oh well. I only pay what I used the previous month so it’s not like they have a pot of my money sat in their account somewhere.

Will just have to wait then for whatever supplier takes over the supply. Likely E-On id assume.

^^ glad to hear that, they told me nothing. Anyway from what Ive heard the deal is already done, they are no longer active. 12k customers, its no impact to the industry or any worry for people on this thread generally. Bulb was 1m+ right

Octopus from a few different people but not confirmed. Does it show up on the meter info

Octopus being the biggest supplier shouldnt be solr :( if Ofgem want as balanced market as possible.

Is Octopus the biggest supplier now?

I must admit I like Octopus, their power up/free energy sessions really start paying off in the darker months if you have a battery. There is 3 hours of free electric today, 12:00-14:00 and then again 21:00-22:00.

With electric underfloor heating in the front room, a convection heater, put the immersion on the hot water tank, charge the house battery plus dishwasher etc, we can absolutely cane it.

Go here
Mine still says supplier is Tomato Energy

I got the Octo mail for the free elec between 9 and 10pm today but when I look at the agile chart, it still shows ~9p for that hour.

They measure what you use above your normal usage, and that's what's free.

I just moved away from Octopus tracker to a fixed tariff on Outfox energy. The price anxiety over the winter isn't worth it.

They’ll just go through the same SOLR process as every other supplier who went bust.

It will be posted on the regulators website when the new supplier has been appointed.

You can either sit tight and wait to be moved automatically or jump ship now. It don’t really make much difference. Either way way you just need to make sure your bills go through accurately.
