Does anyone know what this sounds might be? It doesnt appear to be the drum as it makes the sounds even when the drum is not turning.
It only (so far) has made these sounds when the drying takes place. Video below it can be heard and stops at around 1 min in

I've been in contact with AEG and have a quoted call out and repair cost (including parts, labour and 3 month warranty) but at the moment its intermittent.

water pump ? does it stop because it has emptied and organizing clothes ready to spin - my siemens pump drones a bit when on.

e: is the noise at base of machine if you put ear against it

Could be, but it never used to make this noise.

We had all the pipes replaced in the kitchen in August last year as they were fully clogged with 20+ years of grease, rice and whatever else. If the pump was under strain for a year that probably wont have helped things.
The dishwasher was replaced too which packed in April 2024, probably pump under strain I guess from very clogged pipes.

I mean the bearings/seals in it have degraded
in my reply I was forgetting that you can probably even see it when you clean out the adjacent filter in the machine,
outlet on mine is connected into the waste pipe that joins the double sink outlets - above a single trap.

It looks like it's doing a drying cycle, so three possible causes spring to mind:
  1. Motor. But the noise continues when the drum isn't turning
  2. Main water pump. As far as I can, the pump sounds like it's running continuously throughout the video and doesn't seem to change.
  3. I'm not 100% sure how washer dryers work, but I'm wondering if it's trying to pump out the condensed water.
To be honest, I'd look at #3 first. What sort of dryer is it? A heat pump?

Can you provide the full model number?

I dug around on AEG's site and L7WE7631BI looks similar to your machine - there are variations though, so it's important to also get the right product (PNC) number when looking at parts.

I looked at motors and pumps here and there's really only three moving parts when drying. The drum motor, pump and dryer fan motor.

You're probably going to have to lift the lid and use your ears to find out where the noise is coming from. You could even unplug the machine and disconnect either the pump or fan motor to help you diagnose the problem, but the machine might give you an error if it detects a problem.

Edit: I've convinced myself it's the pump. If you listen to the timing of the whines in the video, then when the whining stops listen to the pattern the pump chugs at - it's almost the same, if not identical. It does also sound very slightly rough sometimes when it's chugging and not whining.

Thanks. Its an AEG 7000 DualSense 7 kg Mod. L7WE7631BI, prod no. 914606602 02. Type FLI456442.

I've now paid a fixed price repair with AEG and have Pacifica Appliance Services Limited coming out on Friday. £84.50 with includes callout, labour and genuine parts up to £500 and the repair is covered by 3-month guarantee.
It's built in to fitted units, so even getting it out is a bit of a pig.

If the parts are included in that price, that's not much more than the price of a pump and probably worth it for peace of mind. Keep us posted what the engineer finds, as I'd be interested to what they find and do.

Keep that video on YouTube and show it to the engineer. Sods law says that the machine will suddenly develop white coat syndrome when he turns up. :D

doesn't sound like a bad price at all ... was it based on them seeing the video too.
if it were something more serious than potential pump, cost would easily exceed that

e: pump failure noise vid

The engineer arrived today and came with a condenser motor, one of these I think - https://shop.aeg.co.uk/laundry/washing-machines/motors-pumps/fan-motor-bi/p/140072078011

He opened the washer dryer, tested it and said the motor wasnt spinning / was stuck. Anyway, he replaced it and said if this doesnt sort it, the next step is to replace the whole unit where the motor sits.

It's covered by a 3 month guarantee so lets see how it goes. Great service really for £84.50 (inc. callout, parts and labour) - Granted a £900 washer dryer shouldnt really fail after 26 months!

That's decent service. Don't be afraid to call them back even if you just hear the noise once more - it could be a sign the problem is lingering, with the potential to become worse after 3 months.
