The stock market dropped overnight due to disappointing earnings from major tech companies and investor concerns about rising AI-related costs.

Here's a breakdown of what triggered the decline:

Key Reasons for the Overnight Drop

  • Big Tech earnings missed expectations:
    • Meta and Microsoft reported earnings that raised concerns about the sustainability of their growth, especially with increasing costs tied to artificial intelligence investments.
    • Meta's stock fell over 4%, and Microsoft's dropped more than 6%.
  • Investor anxiety over AI spending:
    • While AI is seen as a long-term growth driver, the short-term costs are weighing on margins and profitability, leading to cautious sentiment among investors.
  • Flood of corporate earnings reports:
    • A wave of earnings across sectors created volatility, with mixed results adding to uncertainty about the broader economic outlook.
  • Federal Reserve speculation:
    • Investors are closely watching for signals from the Fed about future interest rate moves. Any hint of continued tightening could pressure stocks further.
  • Tariff threats and geopolitical tension:
    • President Trump's announcement of a 35% tariff on Canadian imports added to market jitters, especially for companies with cross-border exposure.
These factors combined to push major indexes like the Nasdaq, S&P 500, and Dow lower overnight, breaking recent rally streaks and signaling a more cautious tone heading into the next trading sessions.

needs more substance and verification though.

Added a bit more UKW, happy to keep topping that up. Ex div in 10 days.

Would love to know the reasons for investing in this company.

Down 10% in a month, 13% in 3 months, down 25% in 1 year, and down over 3 and 5 years......

Whole renewable sector is terrible....Install of windfarms etc is getting harder and longer with all the planning / red tape etc.

Power prices expected to fall over the next 12 to 18 months, Reform want to cut green subs etc....

Dividend is the only positive I see here for UKW...

Seemed to all take a dip about 5-6AM UK, recovered somewhat now but still down. Feels algo related as they all dropped at the same time, maybe wall st trying to scare off the retail holders

I've had some UKW for ages (a tiny amount) and am currently down but I guess with dividends, increased power needs and it being a renewable I'm holding them anyway.

Can't just be tech /mag7 as my all world is down 0.5% this morning but my developed Europe fund is down 1%

I know there would be knock on effects but surely it would be the other way around if that were the whole story?

I basically bought my Europe fund as a hedge against the USA?

A 10% dividend is a pretty significant positive for a long term holding.
