I'm wanting to keep budgies, are they hard to look after? Are they Human friendly meaning, do they get used to being in touch with Human contact or do they hate it?

Anyone got any, do they need a lot of attention. I'm wanting to keep some since house is really quiet and it could do with livening up.

Thanks.

I had a Budgie once. It was a feathered Satan, would draw blood just by looking at you, and kept escaping though the cage bars.

It used to torment my pet rats, who one day managed to grab it through their cage and eat it's head. I didn't buy a replacement.

I used to have a Yellow budgie, Mr Mojo Risin, and he was great. Used to fly around the house, land on your shoulder or finger and generally just sit around singing.

At night though, make sure to cover the cage up otherwise you'll get no sleep at all.

Any positive information? :p

Yes, don't buy a cheap one!

Get one from somewhere reputable, and make damn well sure it's hand-tame (iirc they cost about 10 quid for a dodgy one, and 30-ish for a kosher example).

Budget-budgies are a bad idea, if slightly amusing due to their evilness, and that they do everything you don't want them to.

I see. I don't know any places apart from Pets At Home, they have quite a few. Don't know what they're like though.

Used to have a pair long time ago...but cant really remember what they were like...dont think they are that hard to keep.

BUT whatever you do DO NOT AND I DO NOT get a cockatiel...we got one last yr and my god is that thing so noisy:eek:...FFS 6am in the morning and the freaking thing is chirping like a madman....i swear im gonna wring its neck one of these days:p.

The best budgie we ever had was from one of my sister's friends (her budgies had done the deed and they ended up with a number of budgets), because they were used to humans from the start he was incredibly tame :)

He used to play fetch with small bells, if you flicked it he would chase after it and bring it back :)
He would also sit on technic lego bikes and things like that (think father ted, but with a budgie rather than hamster).

Our current budgie is like a small feathered, scared satan and hates human contact :(

I found mine. Woke up one morning, stepped out of the shower and there he was sitting on the backyard wall. Anyway, as soon as I opened the door he fluttered straight in the house and sat there resting, poor little sod was knackered.

Two weeks later after he'd been advertised as found and no-one had answered or reported a missing budgie I decided to keep him.

Cue four years later when karma occured! My girlfriend at the time left his cage and also the backdoor open!

Wow, thanks for the info guys it helped. Only deal now is, should I get one or two? With two they won't be lonley, but it would be hard getting to know both of them :p

Our cockatiel is very quiet while the cover is on the cage. She does get noisy sometimes, but not at night.

Trill seeds. You can buy them boxes off it. Its like £1.20. And as a treat buy them some spray, they enjoy that. I had a budgie for a long long time until a few weeks ago. He broke his foot during the night when i put a towel over his cage. He was called Percy and he was a English budgie. He was so sweet and a really good pet. They are generally very good pets id say, they like attention though. mine used to sit on the cage and fly over to me and watch me on the PC lol.

Heres a pic of the little fella.

Anything else they have apart from seeds? Or is that their main diet and they can live off it?
