Hi guys and gals,

My friend wants to buy a gaming PC but can only manage £700, he doesn't want to over clock but needs the lot, nothing from his current Packard Bell PC will stay. He will need an OS and I would guess it will have to be Vista for directX10 support? And a DirectX10 card? Any help would be great

Many Thanks

Hi, i was in your same position a few weeks ago, and i got a computer for £620ish. I think you might struggle to get a 8800GTS in that budget, and i've read that the 8600GT isn't worth it over the X1950pro, (which is what I got). For the RAM the Crucial Ballistix pc5300 stuff (2GB) is well liked on the forums, you can maybe get the Corsair 520W PSU, plus a case which you like the look of. I got the EVGA 650i ultra mobo, but you can probably fit a good P35 mobo into your budget, don't know much about these though. For the monitor you can get a good 19" monitor, I got the ASUS one and i can't fault it but you may be able to get a better one. I got a Samsung 250GB HDD and DVD drive, and they're nice and quiet, some people prefer WD though. The OS is really a toss up between Xp Pro and Vista 64bit, again it's a personal choice, I went with the tried and tested XP. And last but not least you could get the C2D 2160, great overclocking potential, but you should probably invest in a 3rd party cooler, such as the Arctic 7 freezer pro. I wouldn't really spend too much on a keyboard and mouse, I just got a cheap logitech pair and they do the job just fine.

I hope this helps and i haven't missed anything, and sorry if i rambled a bit :p.

Thanks for the replies guys, i had a quick look about and came up with almost the the same, but the Intel Core 2 Duo E6750 "LGA775 Conroe" 2.66GHz (1333FSB) seemed a better deal to me, since the faster fsb any thoughts?

Well it has 2MB more Cache which doesn't really affect gaming performance, higher clock speed and are the newer editions from Intel, so if you can get one within your budget then go for it.
