Old athlon xp 2400 machine, good for folding?

I recently built my little brother a new pc and as such have been left with his old machine gathering dust.

It isn't bad by any means - 1gb pc 2700 RAM, x800gto gfx and an athlon xp 2400+ processor.

Would it be worthwhile reinstalling xp on it and using it as a 24 hour folding machine?

Or would it be embarrassingly slow?

Thoughts?

Wouldn't be worth it.

Very few points and a lot of leccy used to get them.

Yeah unfortunately a machine over a couple of years old just don't cut it. It would be better off being used as a server, testing box, or just find a new home for it.

You wouldn't get more than about 100ppd I would have thought. Not worth it nowadays

If you really want to use it, have a look at the 'diskless FAH' threads here as that will be the most efficient route.

You could always use it for one or more of the 20+ BOINC projects out there. There are OCUK teams for all of them.

Yeah good idea. World Community Grid is my other DC project (although on a hiatus at the moment while I work on 1,000,000 f@h points)

My farm is still predominantly Athlon XP based. Sure it's not as powerful as modern processors, but a lot of projects are still pure FPU bound in which case old Athlons do not too shabbily. I wouldn't fold with it, but I'd certainly BOINC with it.
