They didn't - they made them until June '98. Mine was the last one off the line then it sat in Dagenhams forecourt/showroom (which I find ironic as all the Cosworths were built in Germany) alongside an Escort Cosworth, Sapphire Cosworth and Jelly mould Cosworth. Then a director from the BBC came round for a tour in Nov 2001 , spotted the Scorpio and casually said "it's a shame you don't make those anymore, I'd have one if I could get a brand new one". "make us an offer they said". So he did and he got it registered as a Y reg. Clue on the BBC thing - look at the end of the reg plate.

Wouldnt that make it a 51 plate?

Pretty special car to get for only £750 then :)

207bhp at 6000rpm and as much torque (207 ft/lb at 4250rpm). Plus (anyones guess) what the remap has done - 220bhp + 220ft/lb is reasonable.

At the time of its introduction Cosworth claimed it was the most powerful petrol nasp sub 3 litre production engine. And so far, I've been unable to disprove it.

I'm pretty sure the 1991 NSX 3.0 is more than 207 bhp.....

... infact it is 270 bhp @ 7100 rpm, 210 lb-ft @ 5300 rpm

You're right and it never has been explained properly. I think the DVLA ballsed something up. It also qualifies for the "normal" VED rate - £185.

Well spotted - I wonder if Cosworth were discounting the VTEC as nasp or maybe that's why they included the "sub 3 litre" part in thier statement.

Edit - aha - the Cosworth 24v was introduced in 1990 - so that statement may well still be correct :).

There were few engineering changes over the years, notably the introduction of the DOHC engines in 1989, and the Scorpio Cosworth with a 2.9 L 24-valve Cosworth V6 the following year.

Hence why maybe they said 'sub 3 litre' with the Scorpio being a 2.9, a 3 litre NSX doesn't fit the criteria :)

I also quite like these, and was again surprised it was on a Y plate!

Remember one of my lecturers at uni mocking another lecturer for having some old mg that was always going wrong when he had hsi scorpio that was dirt cheap and pretty luxurious.

And I sold my old S reg Cosworth Ultima for £450 - with a rattly cat, rusty arches, dented wing and bonnet and 138k on the clock :) You can just see it in the bbackground on one of the pics - just been driven off by the new owner now :)

hmm.....

'tis true.

18 months ago Scorpio Cosworths that were in anything but very good/excellent nick were scrap. Now average ones are going for £500-£1000 and excellent condition ones are going for £2k. I bought mine for £900 18 months ago and was recently offered £1300 for it.

Seems a bit crap if not long ago you were offered £1300

Why does the feeling for these go between either full blown hate or nothing but praise... but nothing in between?!

I dont see how anyone can say anything other than bad things about them. I am not a mentally fast driver, i press on, but i dont notice the difference between tyres normally.

But, every single time i have driven a car on P6000's in the wet i have noticed it sliding about everywhere - i am a total tyre n00b so if i notice that they are crap, then they must be really crap.

See i must admit, i have never experienced them, so i havent a clue to how they are :(

BUT again all i see is either really good or really bad, and for this reason alone i wouldnt touch them!

My S60 T5 came with P6000's on and they were a hateful pile of donkey excrement. The sidewalls were made of Blutack and they did their very best to disguise very single bit of feel of the road they could. In addition to this they provided little to no grip. Woeful tyres that car manufacturers fit to new cars. I can only assume that somebody at the manufacturers has a very long holiday and a swollen bank account based on the kick backs paid by Pirrelli.

I must also add that in the international ranking of "Oh my god it is so ugly it offends me" your car scores very very highly. That said as a former Fiat Coupe owner I fully appreciate that beauty is in the eye of the beholder and despite the fact that my wife is a 40 year old size 18 with saggy boobs and a cellulite covered arse I still think she is hot I see where you are coming from.

For the money Id imagine its a fiarly nice and comfortable place to spend time.... just as long as someone blindfolded me whenever I was outside of it and convinced me it wasnt that ugly...

There you go, middle ground enough?
