Your spot on. Times have changed, ive also noticed less kids playing out etc. But there are more percieved threats nowadays. Stuff like xbox live and facebook like you said will drag people out of the streets because they think its more fun than playing out.

LOL I remember the number of times that I used to hear " Go and play in your own street!!!" or " I know where you live!!!!" Never had to say that to any kids near me now I'm older.

We used to be out until it was literally too dark to be able to see a ball. Times have changed however. Can't remember the last time I saw kids playing football in the street :o

The summer holidays used to be awesome. Over to the park at around 9am, then play football with the odd break for food and computer games until about 10pm when it was too dark to carry on :)

Same for me really, I remember being told that I could stay out as long as I wanted but to be sure to be home by nightfall and no later...

I've been living in Brazil for the past two years now and here things are rapidly getting the same way as the UK and USA with kids spending less and less time outside with friends, I see and hear of a lto of kids at home all the time playing Wii or checking Orkut (google's Facebook - very popular here) and the only kids I see out on the streets during the day are beggers or poor kids without access to PCs or Wiis.

I'm guilty of spending to much time indoors apart from work I spend many hours on the internet, but, to stay in contact with "home" more than anything...

Your probably right. Back before the internet and mobile phones, I think you were forced to socialise more with neighbours.

And so... you have stricter social groups forming such as Emo, Goth, Chav, Indie etc as social groups are communicating and sharing views in a social group that does not criticize what they do.

Perhaps it was a better place before :D

Good point (I think?) but who in hell out of that lot would choose 'Chav'. I mean... I could be Indie, Goth, etc. ... no... I'll go Chav - fetch me 'at.

Personally, I find the Internet to be a useful tool at times. However, I use things like MSN, FaceBook, MySpace etc. as little as possible and do all nearly all of my socialising face to face. Admittedly, today most of this will be arranged by mobile telephone whereas it wouldn't have been 15 years ago.

I appreciate the Internet as an incredibly useful resource, but it has minimal impact on my socialising. I wish the same could be said for the young people of today.

Is it any wonder parents prefer their kids to stay indoors when most communites have more perverts/paedos living in them than in our jails...?

It's simply not that safe for children to be playing in the streets anymore, even grown adults aren't all that safe from random nutters/chavs.

When I was younger our school had a youth club once a week, there's nothing like that anymore.

Just because you 'know' of more paedophilles doesn't mean there are more of them. In fact, thirty years ago it would have been far easier to be an active paedophille and not be discovered.
