Can't stretch to either of the above monitors but need to know what is the next best thing, will go up £300 ish. would like 1920x1200 as I currently have a 1600x1200 Dell 2007fp and I don't want to lose any height.

cheers and happy new year

Happy new year to you too :)

the monitors you stated are very expensive as they are IPS monitors
if you cant strech that far you will have to go for a TN panel
you will lose soem picture quality but TN's are much more suited to gaming with better reaction times. meaning no lag/ghosting.
Here are some good 16:10 24 inchers catch em before they are gone as some people say 16:10 is going bye bye soon enough as 1080p becomes more and more popular movies are being done in that format
Samsung SM2433BW http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MO-099-SA&groupid=17&catid=510&subcat=
Samsung T240 not avalable from ocuk (or i cant find it)
IF IPS is what you want you are going to have to drop inches here are two isp panels in your price range
the extremely popular 2209WA http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MO-032-DE
an IPS viewsonic http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MO-076-VS
i dont know whether them last two are 16:10 or 16:9

Unfortunately all the T Series are end of life. Once all the other retailers/e-tailers run out that's it. :(

I'd also be tempted to go for the Viewsonic IPS as linked above. Although it's lacking all of the connectivity options of the NEC EA231 it's considerably cheaper and you get the same panel which is pretty damn good too.
