Really looking forward to this if they do it right. Hopefully a show will gets Martin's arse in gear (he's writing so slowly!) and he'll finish the series to the same standard as the initial books before he dies!

WE HAVE A SEASON ORDER, I REPEAT WE HAVE A SEASON ORDER!!! :D :D :D :D :D

We sure do:

If you’ve been longing for an epic fantasy to help fill the gap between Peter Jackson’s “Lord of the Rings” movies and the maybe-someday remake of “Dune,” HBO may have rolled the saving throw you needed. On Tuesday the cable channel said it had officially ordered “Game of Thrones,” a new series based on George R. R. Martin’s “Song of Ice and Fire” fantasy novels. The best-selling book franchise, which began in 1996 with “A Game of Thrones,” chronicles the dynastic conflicts among several families on the mythical continent of Westeros. The principal cast of the HBO series, which will run 10 episodes, features no less than 17 members, including Mark Addy, above left; Sean Bean; Peter Dinklage; Jennifer Ehle, above right; Iain Glen; and Lena Headey; as well as Tamzin Merchant (of “Pride and Prejudice”) as the heroine Daenerys Targaryen. Production on the series is to begin in Ireland in June; a premiere date has not been set.

US broadcaster HBO is to begin filming its epic fantasy adventure series Game of Thrones in Belfast in June.

Oh my god, I love these books so much, and it will be fantastic to have a TV show based on them! can't wait, any ETA on when the first episode might be coming our way?

I am eagerly awaiting the next book in the series, currently reading the Wheel of Time books too (almost on to book 12 now).

I need to re-read from the beginning again, I can't remember what happened. I bought the latest book when it came out, started it and had no idea what was going on!

Nice one. Let us know your thoughts. Its a lot to take in the first 500 pages or so.. so many characters and friends of characters but its more than worth-while :).

Very slight Feast For The Crows spoilers!

I read them all in one go and I never got the cliffhanger ending at all. I knew it was meant to mean something to the reader but I couldn't remember what... had totally forgot about the opening chapter of Feast. 800/900 pages is a long time to pick up a plot thread for a character we had one chapter on.

I just found out about this, should be awesome! HBO are pretty good at making series and the writers are renowned.

Im not reading the thread as i'm still only 3/4 through Storm of Swords (honestly after the wedding at The Freys castle i almost gave up.. but i'll persist) but i wanted to bump it!

According to Wiki, it's been greenlit! With Sean Bean in too, woo!

Hadn't checked back to see what the final cast looked like and wow it looks stellar - got some good names in there!

I do like the way HBO work, they make shortened shows not as long as most others but they make them to a high standard all the way through, it doesn't drop off (The Pacific being a blip on that otherwise pristine radar).

Will defo be looking forward to this airing!

The other thing to consider however is that it's mostly going to be Medievil porn.

HBO are also responsible for Rome, which is Roman Porn, and True Blood, which is Vampire Porn. Oh and Big Love. Mormon Porn.

One thing we know from A Song of Ice and Fire so far; there's going to be a lot of porn.

Still, with the cast list released and the epic nature of the books i'm inclined to be extremely excited about this.
