Will you pay VAT on them as they're a business purchase? If not that makes it £1019.

There's also these:

Intel Core i7-720QM 1.6GHz
4GB RAM
500GB HDD

Webcam + Bluetooth

Windows 7 Home Premium

You would have to buty 8Gb sets of RAM though which isn't cheap (circa £250-300).

If thats from the website, you'll note that the spec of the ram changes on that option, so the price isnt really correct. 8gb of PC3-8500 is more like £200-300, whereas the £500 option is PC3-10600 or similar.

Although thinking about it, with any of these machines you're probably better buying a base ram spec and sourcing the ram yourself. Sony/Dell/Lenovo/Toshiba/etc will charge a fortune for it, but will all class it as a customer replaceable unit, so you can change it without affecting the warranty.

Surely you want a desktop for this? Mobile i7 chips aren't anything like as fast as desktop processors can be, so you're paying more for a slower machine. The advantage of being able to carry the computer around doesn't seem that significant for matlab.

Clevo providers could probably do you something in this budget region :)
Perhaps try having a word with Kobalt :)

Even going on website prices, if you've already got OS and chose the no OS option rebate, you could get 2 8GB RAM machines with 320GB HDD, DVDRW, and 720QM processors for about £3040 (oh and 5870m GPUs if thats of any relevance to you, unfortunately they dont have any cheaper cards for the chassis). G860 (Clevo W860) chassis :)
If you didnt need I7, they have other machines cheaper of course.

Personally I'd recommend them, the aftercare is good, and even if they aren't perfect when it comes to delivery times (its a small outfit with 5 people!), they do provide a very human touch, compared to the likes of Dell, although obviously they take longer to get the machine to you (worthy trade off).

Depends on what you need really, but I would recommend dropping them an email.
