I would go 5850 crossfire since even if all games do not support it you will find a single 5850 is enough at 2560x1600 lets face it and where the games that do support it you will have extreme performance providing your cpu is clocked high.

If you going the single card route though then GTX480 is probably the best option providing of course if you get it less than £400 that is.

It doesn't matter how many gpu's are on a pcb, it's still a single card. If one were to compare the number of gpu's then that's entirely different.

Well, personally if I could get one for 'reasonable' money like mentioned and was using 2560x1600 res then I'd certainly consider it seriously. They run tessellation better and have better mininum frames in a fair few games. However, as we know, there isn't much to tessellate atm, lol. :D On the down side they run hotter than the ultra cool 5xxx series and use more juice.

Shame I think they look a little ugly but then again, who cares if it pumps out the frames. :)

I've run GTX480 SLi in a Cosmos 1010 case with 5 X 120mm fans, and a Silverstone FT01-B with 2 X 180mm/1 X 120mm fans.

In either case, the noise/heat/power have not been a problem for me. They're hotter and louder than 5870s, but when you're running them in a good case and playing games the fans stay in the 50-60% range and are not "loud". (and they hold temps on my two 480s in the low 90s)

In other words, concerns over GTX480 heat and noise are over hyped in my opinion.

GTX480 without a doubt , i get same Load temps as my old 280 but the 480 idles easy 10c cooler than the 280. the 480 temp's reported in reviews are laughable but they were Sample cards used.
