If you had the following PC spec what would you expect it to play
reasonably well including putting the Xbox360 to shame.

(res 1366x768) windows7 64bit.

Processor (CPU) Intel® Core™i3-2100 Dual Core (3.10GHz, 3MB Cache)

Memory (RAM) 4GB SAMSUNG DDR3 DUAL-DDR3 1333MHz (2 X 2GB)

Graphics Card 1GB NVIDIA GEFORCE GTX 560

Hard Disk 500GB SERIAL ATA 3-Gb/s HARD DRIVE WITH 8MB CACHE (7,200rpm)

for example the new game. fear 3, the latest call of dutey and F1 2010.
and what about id's new game Rage set for release in October?

At that res, you'd be able to max-out pretty much all games easily, except for maybe GTA IV

Aye at that res you'll be completely fine, in fact you'll probably get cpu limited before you are gpu limited at that res.

my PC is worse than what you have posted (phenom II X4 + GTX 460 768MB) and i game at the same resolution

i get 30-60FPS in crysis 1 with one of those configs that go beyond very high, 40-70FPS in crysis warhead.

i dont have any other of the common graphics card killing games so i couldnt tell you about them

can get a new pre built for £600 on that spec. seems ok for some casual pc gaming

at that rez you will be groovy with that spec.

and still outputting a higher res than the 360

Make sure the motherboard and PSU is not cheap rubbish ones.

Especially the PSU DO NOT CHEAP OUT ON THE PSU, EVER!!! It is the most important part if you don't want your new system to explode!

£600 is bad.

all that inc psu and whatever crap mobo you get is only worth about £400-£450
