27" too big for gaming?

Thinking about getting a new monitor. Like the look of this Samsung S27A950D 27" 120Hz 3D Widescreen Ultra Thin LED Monitor:

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MO-166-SA&groupid=17&catid=1120&subcat=

But need some advice from you guys.
a) I'm coming from a 22" and was wondering if 27" is too big for gaming (particularly FPS) due to the fact that you can't see the whole screen?!

b) Is there a measure of pixels per inch. If a 27" has the same res as a 24" screen then the 27" screen must have a lower pixels per inch ratio. Does this lower ratio make text on a 27" screen more 'blurry' and harder to read?

lol, what ?

to the OP

1) depeneds how far back you sit

2) yes a monitor has a pixel size so if the res is the same on a 24 and a 27 the 27 pixels will be larger

however this does not mean they will be blury or unreadable

If you are paying that much for a monitor surely you would get something with a higher res? 2550x1440 or 2550x1600?

I'm happy with the res, I was looking for a monitor with 120Hz and LED - this seemed to be the only option

I went from a 19" 5:4 1280x1024 to a 27" 16:9 1920x1080 and found it ok, except for the rather funny consequence that my computer can no longer play the games at decent fps..

I use the Samsung S27A950D 27" for FPS gaming and its absolutely EPIC!

If your serious about FPS gaming 120Hz is a must! Its much smoother. Equally critical is low input lag and rapid response. On both counts the Samsung is at the top of the pile.;)

For fast paced FPS you want 120Hz and a high frame rate NOT super high res. Unless you have a MEGA money SLi / Xfire setup there is no way you can drive the ultra high res screens at the required high frame rates.

You also cannot currently get over 1080 res screens at 120Hz.

The Samsung S27A950D 27" is highly recommended. IMO its one of the best FPS screeen currently available.

Oh and 3D is a fun distraction too!;)

If you have the money then you should definitely get that mointor, I think it looks amazing (from pics and videos) and there is an added bonus of being able to have 3d without paying for an extra kit, and paying for a better card to run 3d, as the monitor does the 3d conversion itself :)

I went from a 22" to a 27" and it was the best decision I ever made. Nothing is blurry it all look's wonderful and in full HD too 1920x1080. And now I have three of them in eyefinity and yet again it's another decision I'm not regretting not to mention I sit less than a meter away from my screens.

I've got 22" 1920x1080 at work, 28" 1920x1200 at home, and I much prefer the 28". only problem being I want to have a triple monitor setup eventually, and you need a pretty big desk for 3x28". :p

Have an iMac with a 27" screen and found I couldn't play World Of Warcraft full screen on it (possibly sat too close to it). On the rare occasion that I use it for playing games on, I generally switch to windowed mode and situate the window near the bottom of the screen.

Another side effect of getting this was the built-in webcam is so high up anyone I chat with on skype just sees the top of my ever increasingly balding head!

I LOVE gaming @ 27inch.

For my eye's it clearer. Its much more immersive too, and due to the TINY bezel on the Samsung it does not seem as big as it is on the desk.

Lets be clear it is only 1.5 inches on each end of the diagonal (corner to corner) measure from 24 - > 27 inch. Its only that the screen is a bit bigger than a 24 inch screen plus the bezel and a bit more. Maybe the screen is the same size as a 24inch screen with a double thickness bezel. If you imagine that its hardly a monster increase!.... IMO.

well i game on a 30" and would not go back to anything less, as for the screen res i would deffo go for a monitor with a better res, which can be had for lees than the monitor you linked to, ive heard good things about the hazro's that do 2560 x 1440 for just under £400, i personally cannot see any advantage of the samsung @1080p over a cheaper hazro.
