Right guys, gonna be listing my car up forsale tomorrow (weathers crap to get good pictures today :( ) and basically i'm just looking for a quick sale.

But when I sell the car, there will probably be a couple of days to a week before purchasing a new car.

What do I tell my insurance company as I'm half way through a policy, and I'm only 19 so very keen to get my 2nd year no claims so can't end my policy either.

Surely if someone else tries to insure my car while I'm still insured on it, the system will just say no, or someone can drive it around without insuring it but it will show up as being insured by me...

Thanks, Grant

I'm sure you should be able to suspend your policy from the moment you sell it, and then reactivate it with your new car when you get it. Give them a call, you wont be the first person to have ever done this.

I've suspended my policy before with MoreThan and since I had it suspended longer than 30 days they give me a refund for them unused days, any less than this and I wouldn't of got any refund. Your renewal date should stay the same.

As far as i'm aware they can be insured on it too through a seperate policy? or do I have this wrong.

Tbh nothing wrong with a quikc 10minute call to tell them you sold it.

I had a 14 day 'grace period' where you can insure two vehicles at once under the same policy. This works if you were picking up a new car but hadn't sold your old and still needed to drive it.

You can either suspend or transfer your policy to a different car mid-term. There may be an admin fee and/or an additional charge/refund if the premium on the new car is more/less than the previous.

Why tell them? They will be insuring you on something which cannot be crashed in to, stolen or set fire to. If you don't care about paying for this period then I wouldn't bother telling them anything.

Not telling your insurance company you are no longer driving X car isn't a bright idea. The other party who've bought the vehicle could still cause problems.

I'd do it by the book tbh given how insurance companies like to wriggle and squirm I try not to give them any reason to do so.

That's good to know, I'm also with Admiral and will probably be changing the car. Then again, I may also have to go to a more specialist company instead, Admiral don't cover front mount intercoolers for some strange reason.

Ya, my policy is up for renewal in little over a month so will shop around then. My car change (you already know the car) went down a bit because i have told them i now have a job then went up a bit as I tripled the annual mileage so will cost my £9.30 to change to the new car, and thats including the £17.50 :D

My brain is niggling me and saying its illegal for a car to be insured by two different parties, but I stand to be corrected :)

/Agree on the call though, just clears you of any liability should the unforseen occur.

Just got off the phone with admiral and you can suspend your policy and they will in a round about way give you money back for it.
Doesnt affect your ncb or renewal date assuming you have a car on the policy at that point.
